abdominal discomfort and ovarian cyst

My girlfriend has been having frequent discomfort and stomach pain. Maybe 2-3 times per month.  Finally this past weekend she went to emergency room due to severe pain coming in waves that did not go away like the past times.  She was diagnosed with inflamed bowels (strange as no digestive issues) and on ovarian cyst. But this explains this recent thing but not the issue over the past year.  Could this be a recurring issue? Is this serious?

Women can get from time to time ovarian cysts.  Usually they are simple cysts and not dangerous.  I have had one myself.  And they pass on their own. While you have them, you can have irregular bleeding, pain, hormonal changes.  Then when they pass, it is painful.  You often also have heavy bleeding.  It is like a super magnified bad period with cramps and bleeding.  Then you pretty much go back to normal after.  I had one 15 years ago and do not think I've had any others since.  So, you don't always get more.  Some women do.  But it is not serious even though it is a annoying.

Thank you. I worry about her but don't want to worry her.
I get it.  I think it will be okay.  Let us know how she is doing
