breathing problems from birth control

has anyone had shortness of breath from using loestrin or any birth control? i have been dealing with the constant feeling of having to take a deep breath for about 4 years now and i am wondering if all this time it is from birthcontrol.

I got on Lo Loestrin almost 3 months ago. About 6 weeks ago I developed extreme fatigue, low grade fever and after about 3 weeks my energy returned, but I have had shortness of breath and continue to have low grade fever.  I have had a ton of tests, most of which were normal- except elevated platelets and my rheumatologist thought to test me for anticardiolipin antibodies.  I have them.  I read that sometimes the pill can cause one to make these antibodies, which puts you at a higher risk for blood clots.  And possibly something called Phospholipid Syndrome, which causes shortness of breath, a greater risk of blood clots or pulmonary embolisms.  I’m still learning and researching, but I took myself off the pill yesterday.  I have autoimmune issues, which is why my doctor even thought to test me.

I was retested 7 weeks after getting off Lo Loestrin (was on it for hot flashes) and I tested negative this time for anticardiolipin antibodies.  My breathing has returned to normal and  low grade fever is gone. It took a few weeks to return to normal, but sadly my hot flashes are back!!!
Ugh, Logan1970.  That stinks that the hot flashes are back but breathing is more important, right?  Does your doctor have any other suggestion for you?

Hi Ladies,

am so relieved to hear that other ladies are experiencing what am experiencing too. I really think  birth controls has something to do with the breathing problems. I will ask my Doc when I see her.

To be honest, no I don't think I did but, after re-reading your very first post I noticed you said that you had the consant need to take in deep breaths, as I only get this feeling once in a while.

I don't know if there is any links with the contraceptove pill and breathing problems although I assume it can maybe affect your blood pressure as every time I go to my doctor to get some more they take my blood pressure.

However, if you are really worried you should definitely go see your doctor and talk to them about it, even if it is just to put your mind at ease.

Sorry I don't seem to be of much help to you!

did your breathing problem start after or before the loestrin?

HI,

Funnily enough i get this too.  Not regularly though, it is somewhat rare, but I sometimes feel like I need to take in a really deep breath because it feels like I can't get enough air in.
I never thought about it too much really, and certainly didn't think that it was related to my birth control.  Maybe it isn't and it might just be purely coincidental.
I used to be on the Yasmin pill, but just very recently I changed to Loestrin.

I suppose it could be worth talking to your doctor about it, I might do next time I go.

Still nice to know I'm not alone on this!
