"grainy" blood during period

hi im just having a weird period. it started in an abnormal (for me) way and it looks abnormal. first i spotted for four days a week before period was due. then started period and the blood looks sort of grainy in the bottom of the toilet. its not the normal clots or just blood flow, theres clots then when you look it looks like red sand. has anyone else ever experienced this? maybe its a cyst?

This has been happening to me for the past week. Like when I look in the toilet it looks like sand and it also smells different. This has been happening since I got Nexplanon. This is my 3rd time with it and never had this issue before.

Hi there.  Is it like coffee grounds?  Is it dark in color?
Its dark red but like sand not as thick as coffee grounds
Got it.  When blood comes out, it oxidizes.  Period blood can be grainy.  Some do see it as coffee grounds and in this case, even more minuscule as sand. Did you just have the IUD inserted?  I read that during the placement of that, they use a solution that causes women to have a grainy discharge following it.  Here's an article that talks about it.  https://womenobgyn.net/procedures/office-procedures/

What makes you think you have PCOS?  Do you have other symptoms?  Spotting before an expected or instead of an expected period is often hormonally related.  Is your period often irregular?
