lichens schlerosis - biopsy

Hello.

Has anyone had a biopsy for this?  I have one set, and have no info other than what I find online - I understand what the condition is, but can't find info about a biopsy.

Will it hurt?
Can you walk afterward?
Other info?
Any advice?

The doctor doing the procedure, I'm told, will speak with me before.  But it's Monday and I'm a bit anxious now.

Thanks for any answers.

Hello! I, unfortunately, have Lichens Schlerosis. They did a "punch biopsy" on me right in the office & it's like a quick pinch. Not too bad, and aches like a small bruise for a day or two. My dermatologist is treating me with steroid creams {3 different ones}, but it's hanging in. UGH! It has become much milder over a long period of time...

Glad it is getting milder.  Have you tried any OTC products like petroleum jelly or A&D ointment on it?  I've heard it can help.  And if steroids don't work, there is a secondary drug they can prescribe called Protopic.  I'm telling you, it's a pain to have skin sometimes.  :>/
The only thing other than steroids I've tried, is triple antibiotic cream-as when it first appeared on my upper thigh, it looked like someone burned me with an iron! It was like a huge blistered area that stung like heck! It's been there now about 2 yrs!!!!! But, it's getting smaller & doesn't hurt anymore. I got another area on my right shoulderblade about 1 yr ago=generally never hurts...but itches & it a scaly white rash. My dermatologist said the only other treatment he knows is to lay under a special light, several times a week & even that sometimes does not work. He said many post menopausal women get it-for no known reason! YUCK
I also have lichen sclerosis.  In addition to the steroid treatment given by my dermatologist dietary changes suggested by my naturopath have also helped.  I was advised to avoid sugar, gluten and diary in my diet and include lots of vegetable and fruit.
TY radar7! I've been a vegetarian since 4/4/1980...so I def eat a lot of fruit & veggies
This is great information, thank you ladies!

They take what is called a skin punch, in other words, about an inch's worth of skin. This will be a deep sample of your skin, and it takes about 3 months to heal. They cannot use stitches because you need your body to naturally regenerate such a deep puncture. It will puss and bleed occasionally. Also, it will itch if you are testing for lichen sclerosis and think you have it. You can walk easily, it is not a big deal, however, it is advisable to apply A&D, bacitracin, neosporin.. anything that protects it from infection. Any urine that passes over the biopsy sample will BURN! It is such a horrible feeling, the acidity in your urine will cause your sample to bleed, further continuing the cycle of not being able to heal.. so apply something on it! Vaseline based!
