paragaurd and mirana?

Finding a good birth control? Is it even possible?

I'm currently on the pill right now. But im sick of taking that thing every day. I switched off of it a few months ago to try nuva ring. I was fine on that for a month or two. But started getting UTI symptoms. My doctor told me i had a urinary tract infection and gave me an anti-biotic to fix it. But something wasn't right. i kept getting them over and over again for a year. so nuva ring went bye bye. and now im pretty much back to normal. I am currently looking into paragaurd or mirana. I have not had children, so i hear they can be painful. and i already have a bad period and cramps. and i hear that paragaurd will not help this. Does anyone have any knowledge on these 2 forms of contraceptives? Or any other advice? thanks!

Howdy! I have had Mirana for 5 years, it was well, weird! it hurt some to have put in, but was in and out of the office in one visit.  My doc gave me a pill to "insert up my vaginal canal"  the pill the night before the procedure, it helped thin and soften the crevics so the insertion would go easier.  I popped a few Ibuprofen before I left to also help with pain and swelling.

I had Mirana for the full 5 years and my periods became less and less, then disappeared!  This is "normal" according to the doctors and I always felt like it was not "normal".
after the 5 years I had it removed, removal was easier then insertion, and they removed the Mirana and instered the Paragaurd in the same appointment.

I have switched to Paragaurd, I've had it for only about 2 months now.
My periods are back, 1st one felt mostly normal finally- the 2nd one is like OMG! I feel like all my missed periods have ganged up on me to kick my butt with vengeance!   I'm bleeding like never before!  like changing a pad every 1 to 2 hours bleeding right thru the pads!  Yes cramping, yes back pain, yes I had to go buy some more heavy duty products and even picked up some baby wipes at the store, because of the mess. Yes I even brought a extra pair of underpants to work because I might not make it thou the day with out it!
the pain I can handle, ibuprofen every 6 hours or so.

So I give you the rundown:

Mirana:   The Good: lasts 5 years; No worries remembering to pop a pill every day; Super effective against baby;  Lighter or no more period. (I found no period to be annoying & unnatural).
The bad:  no more period, I gained some massive weight on this hormonal birth control (I'm now FAT!!! some of that is probably my own fault too).
The Ugly: it works differently for everyone so you wont know exactly how it works for you until you give it a try.
***Since it uses hormones- if you are on a antibiotic it can stop working!!

Paragaurd:  The Good: lasts 10 years; No worries remembering to pop a pill every day; Super effective against baby; You know it is working because you get your period every cycle; Copper continues to work even if you are taking antibiotics!
The Bad: OHhhh man were is all this blood coming from?!! (this is probably because I was on Mirana then Switched my body is trying to rebalance after being off balance for so long, and most reviews say this levels back to normal after a few months).
The Ugly: Some people find out they have a copper allergy, if that is the case you will quickly become miserable and sick and it will have to be removed.

What is right for you? Your guess is probably better then mine. Good luck I hope this helps. personally I wish I went the Paragaurd 1st, I would still have about 5 years left on it and I would not have to go through a body reset after not having a period with Mirana for almost 4 and a half years.
