Postmenopausal bleeding is not normal and can be due to a number of conditions, including vaginal or endometrial atrophy, endometrial hyperplasia, and endometrial polyps or cancer. If you have any bleeding, even if it is only spotting, you should see your doctor to get a transvaginal pelvic ultrasound. If the endometrium is thickened, you may need endometrial biopsy.
Yes, I agree. Perhaps atrophy is occurring with the pain upon examination that you describe, however, I think that they should have proactively investigated that further. No one wants you to be in pain but having a full picture of what is happening with your body is important. I'm not sure how thyroid issues would factor in other than the hormonal factor that is impacted. I had significant issues with my cycle while my thyroid was running slowly but that was in my 20's. Post menopausal bleeding is always a concern from my understanding. Can you get in to see your doctor? And it very well could end up being due to even say dryness at the entrance of your vagina and a little abrasion or tear but you need to know.
Have you had this checked out yet? I just wanted to add that another cause of bleeding (at least in the early post-meno years) can be due to sporadic ovarian activity since the ovaries continue to produce hormones a woman's whole life. However, it is still a good idea to have it checked out since it could be something serious.
Hi , just an update to what happened with the slight bleeding . I went to the dr again and she insisted the blood is from the uterus and said everything else looks healthy and to check my thyroid which I did and alls good.
She gave me primolut to take for 21 days and to come back if I still have a problem . Trouble is now I am bleeding quite heavily and not sure if it’s because of the primolut or another problem. I’m travelling now and just wanted to get some feedback as to if the bleeding is a result of the hormone as I haven’t had a period for over five years now. I’m going to go back to my dr again, she said if I still had a problem she would do a D and C
Thanks again for any feed back
