where did this come from?

Hello, so today I went to my doctor and she stated that by the look of some.discharge I had and a funny smell I have bacterial vaginosisand I have a few questions.

Where did this come from?
What is it?
Is it harmful to my body?

She prescribed timadamax (I think) for 5 days with a cream and told me its not sexually transmitted that its a ph imbalance from me touching or from wearing tight clothes. But that it was nothing to worry about. I'm confused and scared. I do not know anyone's who's had this. Reason why I went to the doctor today was to have blood drawn as I have been with my current bf and my ex bf both unprotected (I know so stupid). Can this be a result of it? If so hiw can I know who gave it to me. I haven't had sex with my current bf since the beginning of september and I've been with my ex the last week in september.

Thank you! I thought no one was going to answer!

My doctor prescribed me timadamax (I think it was) At the time I had my checkup with her I did smell a fishy smell but when I got home I didn't smell it. She told me not to introduce my fingers or else I will get more bacteria. She also prescribed the cream mycolog II.

I'm afraid I might have caught hpv, pid or soemthing else. I've never had bv and am afraid because I have been with both ny ex and current bf. I refrained fromhaving sex until I get my results next week. Both my ex and bf were priously tested and all exams came back negative.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Bacterial vaginosis is the most common cause of abnormal vaginal odor and discharge. It is caused by a change in the type of bacteria found in the vagina.
The exact cause for the change in type of bacteria is still not known, but it is can be due to IUD’s,multiple sex partners or having intercourse with a new partner.

In addition to unpleasant "fishy" vaginal odor, thin white or yellowish discharge from vagina may also be present. Diagnosis can be confirmed after pelvic examination and microscopic examination of the vaginal discharge. Treatment is by metronidazole((Flagyl, MetroGel) and clindamycin (Cleocin). They are available as pills or vaginal gels or creams. Please do not use any vaginal douches.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

It's nothing serious, just an infection. The medication that they prescribed you should clear it up.
