The historical society will have old plat maps that show how the town used to be arranged. I doubt you can find anything like that on line, I just don't think its available on line.
i did as much searching online as i could about the area i live in and i didn't find anything useful :(
Years ago in my youth, I used to experience a lot of deja vu. I would say an abnormal amount. It was common place to have deja vu almost daily. Anyhow, out of nowhere my mother hired this grandmotherly lady named Bernice to come over 2 times a week and help get us kids out of the house, some light house keeping, and perhaps get something started for dinner. Really nice lady as I remember.
One day I told her of the previous days deja vu. She looked at me and said "there aren't many people like us". Today that kind of creeps me out.... like something out of the Exorcist or something, but then it just perplexed me. After a period of time, she was just gone.... saw her once in the streets and she wouldn't even talk to me. I couldn't get an answer out of her and my mother said she just quit....
So, for years I ignored things like this but now wish I would have done everything to bolster or enhance these abilities.
I mentioned above, getting in touch with the historical society in your area. You'll find so much information there... please get after that and check back in.
well, i live fairly close to jerome, az. i'm hoping you've heard of it. it's a really amazing little town plopped on the side of mingus mountain, it's haunted. the whole town lol. ok ok maybe not the WHOLE TOWN, but a lot of the buildings there are definitely haunted. and i know there are mines near there. the mines are between my town and jerome.
i think i will try to find what history i can about the land here, though. :]
that's really awesome that your wife is so sensitive, and it's helping you... that's like what happened with me, only reverse the genders :P my boyfriend's mom has always been really sensitive to these things, and she encouraged my boyfriend to be open to it as well. ever since i've been with him, my experiences have been off the charts!! it's truly amazing.
You know, Northern Arizona was full of gold mining and the likes in the 1800's. Like I mentioned above, I've heard that spirits can be attached to pieces of land rather than just homes. Maybe the fellow in the suit and the hat was a merchant, brothel owner, miner that struck it rich, land baron, cattle baron.... there's a lot of potential. Looking about and researching the area near the home may prove to be really interesting. There's no telling what you might come up with. Something else to consider, perhaps the town or a town near there has a historical society. Those folks can prove to be a worth of information.
As for my story above, if I hadn't lived it I wouldn't have believed it. My wife is especially sensitive to the other side, and since marrying her I think I also awakened something else in me. I am certainly a believer.....
wow! that's quite an intense story!!
also, i've told my mom about the spirits seen and heard here (one i failed to mention was an overweight man in a pinstripe suit and bowler hat who sits in the exercise room and stares out the window) and she said she went online and tried to find information on the land this house was put on. she was hoping to maybe find something about an indian burial ground or maybe a battlefield or something... she didn't find anything. this is a premanufactured home, plopped out in the middle of the northern arizonan desert. there's nothing remarkable about the area! just the house.
I find your story very interesting. I'd agree with your boyfriend's mother that perhaps your grandpa's strong spirit/soul is drawing them in. I used to connect ghosts with homes but started paying attention to all of the stories of say, haunted civil war battle grounds.... it is actually the physical location that is haunted, not a particular home/building.
Your story jogged my memory of a situation that occurred at my fathers house. The home was built by a struggling builder. He'd scraped together enough money to build a spec home. He had a couple of investors involved and the pressure was on. The builder had exhausted all lines of credit and the man was in a dire situation.... make him or break him type situation.
Before the house could be completed, the builder hung himself from the log beam rafters. The next guy to own the home paid off all investors and hired a builder to finish the home. He had it for 20 years and then my father stepped in and bought the home.
Okay, I told you the history just to fill in some of the blanks. I knew nothing of the history of the place nor did I know about the builder..... I moved in with my dad and was offered my pic of the 2 spare bedrooms. The room I picked for some reason was the coolest room in the house. The home office was on one side of my room and the spare bedroom on the other. My room was consistantly 10 degrees cooler.
After a few months of noticing this and hearing miscellaneous unexplained noises, I began to run into "cold spots" or drafts within the home. It was a log home but it was very well insulated and properly chinked (the term for the material between the gaps within the log structure.) I brought this all up to my dad one evening.
Now remember, I was 21 years old at the time.... I was not some kid trying to dream up the boogey man. After I mentioned this activity to my dad, he went on to tell me the story of the builder who had hung himself from the beams. (The beam went across the home, through my bedroom.) Right when that fact downed on me, both the pull down blinds on the front door and back door sprung open!!! You have to tug on the bottom of the blind in order to set the release so the blinds will go up.... I messed with those blinds for about 2 hours, and the only way I could get the blinds to go up is by manually tugging on the bottom and releasing the spring.....
I began to feel differently about ghosts and hauntings from that moment on. I've tried to open myself up and tried to be more receptive and welcoming....
