Hello Everyone newbie and some questions

Hello everyone my name is Crystal I am 26 years old and I was diagnosed with Vitamin D Deficiency 2 months ago, but like everyone on here I suffered for months before I was finally diagnosed.  It all began at the end of November I started having chest pains, then I started having having issues with my heart racing, one time my heart rate jumped up to 170.  I was referred to a cardiologist who ordered a bunch of tests which all came back fine, and he said my heart was ok.  I started to feel bad all the time, I had aches and pains all the time, dizzness, shortness of breath, kept going to the ER cause I didn't have a regular doctor cause I had never been sick in my life and had no money to see a regular doctor but the ER doctors just said it was anxiety. I was depressed cause I was so sick and didn't know what was wrong with me, and at one point I contempulated suicide because I was tired of being sick.  Finally got to see a regular doctor who thought it was my gallbladder, but ultrasound of it came back normal, then after complaining of severe back pain and leg pain she finally tested my Vitamin D level and test came back showing my level was 13.  When I got the call telling me that my Vitamin D level was low you wouldn't believe how relived I felt because I finally had a diagnosis.  I was put on 50,000 units of Vitamin D but I couldn't swallow the pills so I have been taking Wellness Liquid Vitamin D3 for 2 months plus eating and drinking everything with Vitamin D in it, and it seems to finally be helping as I have been dizy free now for 2 weeks though my other symptoms are still present.  Some questions I have is since i'm only getting 1000 units of Vitamin D a day how long will it take to get my levels above 50?  Anyone else take Liquid Vitamin D?

The only alternative I can think of is to simply open up capsules with higher doses of D3 and add the contents to food or liquids.

Does anyone know any other alternatives to get more than 1000 IUs besides the spray cause i've looked and looked and everything in either liquids or chewables don't have anything higher than 1,000IU I know getting out in the sun will help but we haven't had any sun shine here lately cause its been raing a lot here.  I am doing my best to get more IUs a day by drinking a glass a milk and a glass of orange juice fortified with Vitamin D in it a day and eating whatever I can find with Vitamin D.  Its very frustrating that they don't make any liquid Vitamin D in 50,000 IU

I second (or fifth, probably) that you need more than 1k IU/day. I was put on 100k D3 once a week, which resulted in kind of horrible side effects, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat if necessary. (Going from feeling like cr*p to feeling even more like cr*p for a while isn't really that much of a difference, especially if it means you'll eventually feel better than the starting point)

I've come to suspect my side effects (particularly the dizziness and weird headaches) are mostly due to a magnesium deficiency which was uncovered by taking vitamin D (vitamin d "uses up" magnesium, as I understand it), but I'm not jinxing it by saying "that was it" yet (I've done that a few times before). I ignored the advice I was getting everywhere to take magnesium while taking D because the thought of putting a metal into my body didn't sound very appealing, but after reading about it I learned it's not really a big deal at all. It does have some undesirable effects on bowel movements though...

Phyllis makes a good point, Vit D is available in liquid form.  That and/or the sun may be your answer.

Hi, and welcome to the forum!
I can relate a lot to many of the things you tell us, and I feel the need to tell you that even if your dizziness should return - don't get discouraged! I've had some of my symptoms for 6 months of treatment - they will pass eventually! ;)

I also think you take way too little D. I wanted to give you a tip as to a way to get more than 1000 though - have you tried Joseph Mercola's spray? I used that in the beginning, because it was the only way I could find D3 here in norway in higher doses than 400 IUs... Using the spray you can very easily regulate how much you are takin each day ;)
Here's a link to it: http://www.*************.com/about.php

Sun is also a great way of getting D - midday sun if you have much of it, otherwise tanning is a good thing (I had major doubts because I viewed tanning beds as a health threat. But several of the D-experts I was reading told me it was a good idea, so I did 7-8 mins twice a week for quite some time - I really think it boosted my level).

I wish you a good recovery, and I hope you will share your ups and downs with us here :)

Welcome to the forum -- I echo everything Gary's said, especially the need to take higher doses of D3 and be patient, it takes awhile. WIth deficiency you won't get anywhere with 1000 IUs.I've been on the vitamin D deficiency roller coaster trying to get my levels up and stay there since last year. Although I got up to a level of 41 on 4400 IUs daily I recently learned my levels had fallen to 28 and I'm now on 5400 IUs of D3 (small gel caps) daily with a multi plus magnesium and calcium.Somewhere on this site someone (possibly Gadgetsmidnight) posted an article on the length of time it takes for recovery. Unfortunately most of us did not become deficient over night so it does take time to recover then the challenge becomes maintaining a normal level of D. If you can't swallow small gel caps then just make certain you're getting an adequate amount of D3 in liquid form or you might try puncturing the gel caps. Good luck and continue to feel better; let us know how you're doing this is a very supportive group.

Wow I never knew that about Magnisium guess I should take the Flintstones chewables then or eat lots of nuts lol.  I don't know why I can't swallow pills I tried every way but none of them worked.  And I think the hardest part of recovery is being patient cause I so want the old me back which i'm sure you and everyone here feels the same way.

Hi.  I was diagnosed back in January at 15ng and had lots of symptoms.  I was started on 50,000iu/week for 8 weeks.  I had no problem swallowing pill.  Then went to 1,000iu per day and my levels satarted going back donw fomr 35 to 29.  I have read it can take 6 months to a year to recover, so be patient.  Im now taking 5,000iu/day plus a multi, plus magnesium and calcium.  Read up on the importance of taking magnesium and calcium when taking Vit D.  It sounds like you need to up your dose of Vit D, or maybe you can get some more sun at midday and get D the natural way.  Keep you chin up, lots of us on this board have been where you are out and are getting to feel better.  It takes time and patience.
