I feel all of your pain... I too have an  allergy to Titanium Dioxide and maybe Silicon Dioxide.  Every time I take a pill that has this ingredient, I will have severe joint/ muscle aches. The pain would be so bad, that it kept me from being active and could not sleep at night due to pain.  For the longest I thought I was getting Arthritis or Fibromyalgia, but after trial and error, I believe it is the titanium.  If I stop taking the meds that contain it, then I am free of pain.    I have been switching all of my meds if possible to gummies or liquid. I do have some itching with some meds, not real sure if it's just the med or titanium.  I wish they would stop using titanium in products, I don't care if my tablets are not white!

I really hate to have to research everything that goes into or on my body, but it's getting to that point.  I too do not want to look like a mad/ psycho woman, but we got to do what is needed.  Does any one have a list of products/ foods that does not contain Titanium Dioxide.

I have always wanted to raise my own meat, eggs, vegetables, make my own bread and meals with wholesome ingredients.  I guess that time is now. I will plan.

God bless everyone with their struggles.  Arjones

There is no clinical symptoms. Sorry. Just speculation and personal experience. Research on this topic is evasive at best and may be being suppressed since Titanium dioxide make producing products possible and cheaper but adds no value to the product or consumer itself.

I have to say to start out: stay away from Titanium dioxide. There is significant evidence that it is a carcinogen in any size especial nano-particles which everyone here is complaining of ingesting either by mouth (swallowed or inhaled) or topical. Titanium from my personal research is compatible with biological matter and easily absorbed into such things as the human body. Research is unclear what function Titanium dioxide has when absorbed though (just not enough published testing). From the evidence presented here and other places, Titanium--its known function to eat biological matter--seems to be carcinogenic. Do to the functionality of Titanium dioxide there can be innumerable consequences (illness, reactions, etc.). Although there is a  lack confirmation of other effects,  Titanium dioxide has been known to cause neurological disorders. Just bad stuff. I have had migraine like symptoms and was treated for migraines. In fact the medicine that was given to me for the migraines had Titanium dioxide and did not work and made symptoms worse cause of the titanium. I had a slew of symptoms from digestive issues, breathing problems, headaches, raging temper, whole left side of my body going numb, vision problems, immune and metabolism deficiencies, memory problems, tiredness, aching, etc. I finally figured out it was the titanium dioxide and eventually came up with an all natural metal detox which did the trick. There is a hospital version of the detox but it is more evasive.  I hope this helps.

My case is inflamations in my back's nerves resmebling post herpetic
neuralgia. I am hypersensitive and allergic to many chemicals, etc.
If you have any clue about meds without TD that want to share.

Thank you for posting this. I too have found I am allergic to Titanium Dioxide. My Drs. did not know anything about it. When I told them it is in the thyroid medications and in all the antibiotics I have checked as fillers. It is in all toothpaste that we checked, taking two hours to do so, except Toms peppermint. It is in shower liquids except I found Almay sensitive to be without it. I found it in tylenol from Sams not Costco though and also in alot of supplements. My symptoms have been severe muscle, joint pains. I also have found it in mascara. So we need to be our own advocate for our health. Yes, I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalga  as well.

YES YES YES.  I am SEVERELY allergic to Titanium Dioxide.  If I use soaps, makeup, mascara, with it, my eyes go CRAZY, and the first syptoms are large under eye bags and swelling and drying.  If I use toothpaste with Titanium Dioxide present, my gums ache.  It is in everything however.  I am searching diligently to find products without it.  So far, just about the ONLY soap or facial cleanser available OTC are most Neutrogena products.  Good luck.

I've found rite aid will help me. they checked into the titanium dioxide issue for me and found a liquid version of my rx without TI. (Lexapro) hope this helps!
I know it to be true! was having arthritic pain without having artritis, verified with blood tests. it was the TI coating Plavix. stopped drug, stopped pain.  Bought some coconut pill supplements, with TI listed on the front, big letters! Was crippeled with joint pain, tendon pain. Stopped taking them less than 2 weeks pain gone. Another great source was my So Delishous non dairy creamer. Drank lots. Low pain tolerance developed. Now searching for new creamers. not much luck, making my own for now. may have to quit coffee!

I got lost somewhere a long the way.  :)  So fast forward 4 yr and I have hives in all the places I use o just itch.  My patch testing by Dermo upset me so much I sort of gave-up on DRs for a while.  They tested me and there is days of not being able to shower etc and they lied to me. They had no way to test for TD but did not tell me till after I suffered through the test to satisfy there curiosity. I walked out and never returned.  By eliminating everything I used with TD I got better.  Then I seem to forget, fooled myself into thinking maybe I was not allergic to TD. I stopped being so careful and now here I am reminding myself of everything again.  I have also developed an allergy to many adhesives like surgical steri-strips (used instead of stiches) and that square they put on your IV.  I can use what the Drs call paper tape, in case someone else has this issue.  My favorite body wash I used for years now has TD.  I am finding since TD makes thing hard it's in anything with a scrub.  Like Caress Body Wash Evenly Gorgeous and any of the St. Ives facial scrubs.

I do not have any implants and hope it never comes to that but since I live in San Antonio I'm gonna look into what's new in implants someone posted about.

I just ordered the Melisa test so we'll see what happens.  Going back to my allergist also but not Dermatology.

What did you end up doing with your meds?  I am not on very many but I need to check them all again.  I'll try to wait till my test comes back even though the TD allergy is listed on my drug profile.  I am sure it is not double checked unless I say something.  Regards Polarbearcubtx

I am so glad I found this site but as I read I just don't know which post to respond to as they are all related to my current problem.   I have a titanium mesh in my skull after Acoustic Neuroma surgery.   I had blood tests at the allergist in Denver National Jewish health for Allergy and asthma.  Here is my story in brief:
I too have allergies to the implants and am about to have the TItanium mesh removed because of this.   It is in my skull for an Acoustic Neuroma back in 2010...4 years now and has caused me pain since.   I went to the Denver National Jewish Health for Asthma and Allergy last summer.   The doctor determined that I am allergic to Titanium.   I saw her on TV where she spoke about a woman allergic to the nickle in the hip transplant.  I can't wait for this to come out.   All the implants contain Nitriline discovered by the Defense Dept in the early 1950s.  Dr. Pacheco is developing blood tests there and hopefully they can be used world wide so that you can know before hand whether you are allergic to Nickle (45%) or Titanium (55%).    It is best to do things the old fashioned way and to find a surgeon that is willing to do things the old fashioned way without using artificial implants.   My cervical laminectomy consists of bone taken from my hip back in 1988.   I found a doc. at GW that was willing to do this again because of my allergy to nitriline.    These implants are made in Shanxi China and I contacted them to find out what exactly is in the alloy in the implants they make for Stryker

Yes! I Google this every few years but this is the first time I've found this page.

I discovered that TiO2 was the common culprit among the things that cause me joint pain back in 2003 (after several years of trying to find out - ultimately it was cough drops and sprinkles that informed me!), and the last 10 years have been a fun adventure of learning the exact right way to tell doctors that NO, I cannot take just any medication, and learning what kinds of foods and household products I can and can't use.

I've gotten pretty good at IDing on sight the things I should avoid (or check the ingredients on), over time, and I quit my career in solid state chemistry because every lab I worked in had powdered TiO2 in it (which aerosolize and get into the lungs no matter how careful you are), and I made my partner switch toothpaste/other products, etc. I'm lucky that I'm not hugely allergic so my skin doesn't usually break out, though I just today realized that maybe my pain over the last few months is due to the anchors my dentist put on my teeth for my invisalign retainers.

For the person who was wondering whether titanium implants are the same thing: the center of it isn't, it's plain titanium metal, but anything made out of titanium metal will have a very thin coating of titanium dioxide completely covering the surface (invisible to the eye, but this is why titanium is such a promising metal for medical uses: that coating makes it so that the metal doesn't rust). It's not something they do to the metal on purpose - it's just how titanium metal reacts to air/moisture.

I have titanium implants in my spine and have had an immune disorder since they were put in, and progressive muscle loss. I have been concerend its the titanium because I have severe deep itch type pain in the implants still  1 1/2 yrs after my surgery. Would titanium dioxide be the same as the titanium in orthopedic implants, and would the Melisa test tell me if Im allergic to the implants ? I have itching with meds I take as well, and lately I am realizing the pain in my implants is worse after I drink milk.I heard of the Melisa test, but was told you have to have a Drs order to get a kit. I found one Melisa lab that was offering the test for free temporarily but they needed a Drs order. The allergy Dr I saw would not write an order because she didnt feel the Melisa test was validated enough. :(

your doctor and dentist will definitly tell you it is not a titanium allergy as titanium is a non-allergic metal, therefore, closed case.  don't even think you will prove them wrong by having the offending metal removed and see a hundred percent improvement.  that just means you have changed up something else in your life that has made a difference.  my problems started with an over active thyroid, had it ablated (killed) and about two weeks later puffed up like a blow fish.  went back to doctor to ask about a diuretic as i knew my body was unable to deal with anything as the thyroid controls all of your bodily functions.  prior to the ablation i was diagnosed with high blood pressure, never had that before as i donated blood on a regular bases and they kept close track on that.  suddenly i had two dental implants(titanium) go bad.  they went sideways in my jaw and i developed a bacterial infection from the gap that developed from the shifting had them removed.  doctor and dentist claimed to have never seen this happen before.  i believe this was the start of my allergy to titanium dioxide.  it had actually been brewing in my body for years.  add cosmetics, sunscreen, deoderant, toothpaste, body lotion, fragrance, shampoo, conditioner, gum, breathmints, snackcakes, hair dye nail polish

Oh man, I thought I was the only one out there with a titanium dioxide allergy! It took me a year to figure out what exactly I was allergic to, but finally, after trying product after product, I realized it was titanium dioxide. Now I wear titanium dioxide free makeup, which I get here: http://www.**************.com/store/.

Anyway, I have to take Lexapro, Lamictal, and Trazodone daily. Every day I get really itchy, but my skin doesn't ever rash. It just itches a lot and gets really uncomfortable. At least one of those medications has titanium dioxide listed as an ingredient, is that what's causing my itchiness? And if so, how can I find some relief without having to stop taking these medications? PLEASE HELP

O.K. I have a sensitivity to TD, I also have CFS/FM . I have more than 25 years experience in the Alternative Health Industry and Applied Kinesiology. I've learned that most people who have ME/CFS and FM, also have one or more VIRUSES. They usually develop Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS). It is just how our bodies work! The XMRV Virus associated with ME/CFS and FM, causes the reactivation of LATENT Viruses. Our Immune Systems are OVERWORKED! If we don't rid our body of this and other viruses, and Heal our Immune System, we will UNDOUBTABLY become more and more ALLERGIC, to food, chemicals, etc.!  Find a Doctor who practices Applied Kinesiologist (often a Chiropractor) Or one who uses a CEDS machine. They often will be able to pinpoint your specific sensitivities.  I learned to do AK myself. I also was Very inspired to go GLUTEN FREE! Which is one way to stop assaulting my immune system.
God Bless!

OMG !!!!! For the past two years I have been changed from med to med thinking I was crazy!! I was having a breathing problem with each and my doctor would shake his head and try a different one. I found out that when you eat at certain resturants they use silicon dioxiode in the foods. ( this is what I was told) I google this to find out about it and then came to the Titianium Dioxide results.. Now I started thinking back .. I had a "cage" put in my neck as I had a bad disc 2 years ago. This cage my contain Titianium beads maybe ? What I'm thinking is all this Titianium to much for my system ?? Between the meds, makeup ( itching eyes) .. And I feel okay in the morning however I then take my daily med's and it starts all over again. If I eat anything with silicone dioxidoe its worse.

I have spent thousands of dollars purchasing products over the past few months and started performing my own research including talking to chemists of makeup companies.  My problems started years ago with nail polish and nail products.  This year it increased to almost all of my makeup and other personal care products.  The symptoms are identical to those described by others.  Itching, stinging, tongue sensations and actually a taste in my mouth.

I have finally found a physician, Dr. John Apgar in Atlanta that is a chemist and cosmetic dermatoligist.  I started suspecting titaniium dioxide several weeks ago and replaced every makup product.  I also finally found a company that has several nail polish colors that so not contain titanium dioxide.  butter London. You have to expressly ask them for colors that do not contain this chemical and they will provide them.   I cannot express how good I feel to get this out of my system.  I just received my MELISA test and anxious to see the results.  If this proves negative then more chemicals will have to be tested via a patch test.  My last product to try was nail polish and after 3 days of titanium dioxide free nail polish on my toes.....no sensations or reactions. I honestly believe that my research and experiments are yielding a sensitivity to titanium dioxide.

I  hope that they physician community will pay more attention to these symptoms and this chemical allergy or sensitivity.  I tested basic paper based white out and face paint for children on my arm and it was almost a serious reaction as I started to have breathing problems.  Pay attention to your body on this one.  There are signs and they are not compatible with traditional contact dermatitis.  Catherine
