HCG levels are not doubling, but they are slowly rising

I went in on Friday 9/18 for cramping, I was 4 weeks 4 days pregnant.  My hcg levels were 22.  I was told to go in on Monday to see if they at least doubled.  My hcg levels on Monday were 48.  Shouldn't my levels be much higher than this and have more than doubled since it was more than 48 hours since my last hcg check?  My last LMP was 8/17/09.  Is the slow rise in the level a sign of eptopic pregnancy or a sign that I am going to eventually miscarry?

Hi Sondamom,  I know this is many years later but I am wondering what ended up happening with your pregnancy.  I was 154 at 5 week and then 509 three days later.   Having cramping but no bleeding.

I got my blood test results and in 72 hours it went from 48 to 176!  The dr. is pleased with the increase.  Thanks everyone for your encouragement!!

Thank you for the encouraging words, everyone.  My dr. called me today and is "puzzled" as to why my levels aren't higher.  So, I had my HCG levels rechecked.  I will find out my results tomorrow.  I know that I am feeling kinda crampy today.  Hopefully, I am not getting ready to miscarry.

I think they are fine! It is actually a common misconception that levels need to double within 48 hours. Hcg levels are expected to only rise by 66% every 48-72 hours. Below is an estimate of your Hcg levels from friday to monday going by a rise 66% in 48 hours-

Friday - 22
Sunday - 36.52
Tuesday - 60.62

So your level of 48 on monday looks great!!

Your numbers look good to me..I've heard it's not where you start just as long as they come close to doubling 48-72 hours.

The Ob is out of the office until Thursday, so I have to wait till then.  I am sure that he is going to run more blood work though.  Thank you for the encouragement!

Your levels sound fine to me.  They should double within 48-72 hours. There's no exact formula for it.  Since they more than doubled in 72 hours, I would say you're probably fine.  Are they having you do bloodwork a third time?
