memorable posts

since the question of whether mommy knows best has come up, i thought we could take a moment to remember some of the mommies who most certainly did NOT know best (troll or for real)

Currently the ones that are making me a bit crazy are all around this Swine Flu vaccine.  I have read everything on here from it being Gov't conspiracy at population control to being called an idiot (and being cruel to my unborn baby) for opting to have the vaccine.  I am so sick of it, but feel compelled to answer them and try to set these people straight. There are some seriously strange people on MedHelp.....

That would the Google keyword search to blame for that. A lot of ads are based on key words that appear on a site or thread. It's an automated process. Programs aren't smart enough to know the difference between someone looking for vicodin and someone looking to get off vicodin. It just responds to that word and puts an ad up there about related key word.

Hopefully the medhelp staff was able to put additional filters to block out those ads in such communities. Personally I find browsing much better using either firefox or opera to block out all ads. SWF files can really bother me and be disruptive if they blink, bounce around, and make noise or pop up out of the typical ad frame.

"This one I only heard of by reading a few reaction posts. Someone trying to sell illegal drugs in the substance abuse community, seeming to forget the the fact people there would be anything BUT interested. The person was probably looking for a reaction and they sure got it! (before being banned.) "

A long time ago I visited the substance abuse  forum and there were actual sponsored ADS all over the page trying to sell cheap "addictive"  drugs (vicodin, oxycotin, etc)  that many of the users were trying to wean themselves off of!  I immediately contacted MH on that one.

Some "memorable" posts that I have either read or heard about since I joined in December 2007:

One troll was going by the name Dr._Acula (Dracula) making rather nasty posts and just being obnoxious. There were a few sock puppet accounts also with interesting names posting at the time. I forgot what communities they were in, but it was fun silently reporting each of their posts.(usually if I find a questionable post I look up the profile and see their other posts. If they are all troll posts then I report them as well.) One of the last ones from the user made me laugh because the "guy" admitted he was bored and looking for attention and wanted to see what reaction "his" posts would get. It verified what I knew already figured out.

In the autism community:
Bot post rambling with a bunch of nonsense sentences. I guess it was trying to sell some Viagra-like drug (cilias). Where it was trying to "sell" it, listed a lot of contradictory information, most amusingly seeming to imply it is NOT something to be taken. (even though it was not the intention). Somewhere in my old post history, I may have copied and saved the post just because it was so off the wall. (and if I remember, they may have visited a few other communities posting equally nonsense posts.)

Lesson: Comprehensible sentences does not a bot program make.

Another one in the autism community: A forensic scientist looking for information on a crime. I just kind of nudged them gently suggesting that public forums are probably not the best way to get information. The person pmed me to ask me if I knew anything and could help them.

Then we've also gotten "experts" or "professionals" who link to freewebs sites. Nothing against freewebs, but I would not expect to see an "expert" or "professional" using one for their main "website".

Then there was also a member who I thought was okay. His posts were not objectionable. But for whatever reasons he wanted me to go back and delete all his posts and close out his account. I objected to deleting his posts, stating I didn't see anything wrong, but suggested he contact the staff. He disappeared for a while, then returned angry that his posts were still there and his account not removed. In response he posted a lot of single letter posts spelling out F U and fill in the rest...... He had tons of posts with that word and medhelp and whatever else he felt like posting. I removed those posts. He got banned I'm sure.

But it makes me wonder why some people choose to get banned as a way to "leave" medhelp.

This one I only heard of by reading a few reaction posts. Someone trying to sell illegal drugs in the substance abuse community, seeming to forget the the fact people there would be anything BUT interested. The person was probably looking for a reaction and they sure got it! (before being banned.)

This wasn't a post, but rather a series of pm exchanges. It was a very friendly member, but they repeatedly claimed that a "stalker" was after them. I repeatedly tried to encourage the member to report it to the staff if it was on the website. I also suggested they report it to the police if they believed the stalker was after them outside of the website.

The person never did, and even more bizarre when I was about to leave the website, they sent me some rather odd emails off the site. One of them announcing their "death." Then the next day sent me another email announcing that they had an autopsy, found the cause of death and were going to bury the body.

I felt like, hold on a minute... I'm not into forensics, but logic tells me that having an autopsy the day after death and knowing the cause, seems quite far-fetched to say the least.

That whole thing shook me up quite a bit. Some of it in retrospect is rather humorous. But still ever since them I'm a bit more reserved and cautious about pm messages and my online friends in general.

Yeah, I think that was it - sounds vaguely familiar.

Shortly after the "first poster" left, a new poster said she was carrying triplets and another poster posted a link to an US pic that was identical to that of the women claiming to be carrying the triplets.  Good grief!

Is that the one where her brother was left in a coma and her sister in law died in some horrible car crash and she had to take their kids and couldn't afford to raise them on her own and then have the triplets?  I think she actually had quadruplets but one died...the boy or girl, can't remember,  and she was sad because her husband lost his only chance at having a boy or something.  But she was asking donations because she had to take care of her nieces and nephews.  Was that the one?

hmmmmmm, lets see.

Well theres the old "I hear I can sell testicle for $$$$$, is it true????"

And then the  women that posted she was having triplets and had complications and they died.  She was exposed and then posted the same thing under a new screen name.

"But there was this one gal who had long, ceramic fingernails and she "cleaned" her cervix with them every day.  I still get the bleahs when I think of her."

I've known people who like to 'clean' their nose like that too......, their cervixes?... hmmmm, interesting....

Oh yeah, my good ole friend Sandi..... I seriously wanted to strangle her! lol she hurt many women here, including Rachel..., she was on my toes all the stinking time... making fun of my financial status...claiming she was so wealthy, then saying how she found this awesome deal on craigslist....

Then I exposed her here... and got reprimanded by MH and ended a friendship with a CL around here. This is why my mouth is 'almost' shut now. lol got too many info (Maddie's journals... track, pictures, etc) and don't wanna get the boot! ;)

I'm a good girl now.

Amanda, Patty was the one that helped me figure out she was signing up as different people too!!! I swear she can be a detective!

The ones I remember most besides the hoaxers are the ones that grossed me out the most.  All those cervix-checkers -- what a thing to do, I prayed they kept their fingers cleaned.  But there was this one gal who had long, ceramic fingernails and she "cleaned" her cervix with them every day.  I still get the bleahs when I think of her.

Mine too.  I was completely taken in for a long time, felt so bad for her.  It was actually Pcarsey that set me straight....Briannesmom had come on under another name and claimed her 3 month old baby had died.  That's when all the you know what hit the fan. After that I wanted nothing to do with her.

That's right, I remember she found his child pornography.  We were giving her advice on how to get away and she started arguing.  She actually was one of my friends for a while.

Briannesmom is the same person I was referring to that had the run ins with all the serial killers....she was one strange lady. She had also claimed that her husband was into child pornography amongst other things.  I still get the shivers when I think of her....and come on, I always thought her and V were so darned close....lol.

V will remember the one who had once been addicted to oxycotin and used to be a prostitute and was married to a rich man who was arrested for possesion of a weapon and she wanted to escape with her daughter.  Briannesmom was her name.  Her and V had serious battles.

lol, I went back and looked at that old post Flatfred.  I remember when that post was going on and thinking, are these people all the same person talking to themselves?  What a bizarre thread that was!  It was very entertaining.

lol Amanda.... you'd have to do heroin and cocaine and admit it online.... and then ask me how to bypass authorities so that you don't get caught... (who cares about the baby!).

I doubt they did anything though... in most states, they don't prosecute parents until after the baby is born and is physically harmed.

Oh, I was reading a review one time online about a baby bottle or something.  The person was saying that when her baby was done eating whatever solids, she would just throw the rest of what was in the jar into the baby bottle.  That way, she made sure her baby was eating all her meals.  I was so grossed out reading that!
