I agree. I would think they would biopsy first. Is your doctor talking about an surgical biopsy? It is a very scary time for you. Too much information can't hurt and if you are uncomfortable, second opinions can help reassure us. I do prefer a doctor that is over cautious than one that isn't. Good luck!
when a cluster of microcalcifications is found within the breast, there is an indication that there is a problem but it isn't always cancer. Usually a biopsy would be required to know if it is or isn't cancer. If the biopsy is positive for cancer then a determination will be made as to the type of surgery and treatment that will follow. Each and every case is different and requires specific treatment.Since you have a history of breast cancer in the family, your doctor is being cautious and prefers to go ahead with the surgery. However I would ask the doctor if prior to the surgery a biopsy would be recommended.Best wishes.
