Sippy Cups

Does anyone know when a good time to start giving a baby a sippy cup?  I have been giving Kyra one with some water in it lately, but all she really does is chew on it.  I am not going to push the subject b/c i don't even give her a bottle at home, but i just wanted to know everyone else's thoughts.

Kyra is starting to get the sippy figured out...We are using one with the handles and soft spout.  She still gets a little surprised when she actaully gets water out of it though.  I just keep giving it to her and each time she gets a little better with it.

I have been giving my 6 month old a sippy for the past month or so- just letting her play with it.  she definantly knows what to do.  So lately we have been putting water or breast milk in it and trying different style, Nuby seems to work great with the handles  but because the cups get to be kind of heavy when filled she has done alot better with a straw style-not sure on the brand i've got but seems to work great.  I think it's still more of a toy to chew on, I try right before bf to see if she'll take it when she's the most hungry.  I have been EBF the past 6 months and still am but I would like to just skip right past the bottles and go straight to sippy's so until she gets it figured out we'll just keep practicing :) it's amazing how fast they grow up :(  have you all started food?? I will be starting my daughter on ceral in the next couple days- if i would have started when she was "readY" she would have been eating at like 3.5months but she's been growing so GREAT that my dr. advised me to wait until she as 6months....... i'm excited yet sad that she won't depend on me so much, so bittersweet.

I just started giving Addy one at 6 1/2 months, its a chew toy! LOL She is doing a little better with it, I started giving her the Avent ones she likes those, the other brands I have tried....not so much, she did like a Nuby one that I bought her, she likes the handles and soft spout on the Avent though!

My son is 6.5 months and I tried giving him one with juice in it.  He blows into it rather than sucking the juice out and then gets surprised when juice actually comes out!  LOL!  I think he still thinks of it as a toy moreso than a cup.
