How long should I wait?

I have had constant rectal pressure for a week, whether I sit, stand, lie down.  I am 49 yrs old with no history of illness other than hypothyrodism and depression.  No diarrhea, no constipation.  I try to avoid coughing or pushing during a bowl movement, because that increases the pressure and causes pain.   When I do need to have a bowl movement the pressure in the rectum does increase.  I have had episoides of rectal pressure occasionally over the last 10 to 15 years that would be brief ( minutes to an  hour or so), but this  hasn't passed yet.  Should I try something from over the counter, or give it another week or two before I see my doctor? Sal

i would go and have it checked out. try taking a fiber supplement like citrucel  to make your stools easier to pass. sometimes this condition can be caused by a prolapsed rectum.

I wouldn't wait to see if this improves.  I had this at one time and it turned out to be IBS.
But there may be more to it and you need to find out to head off anything becoming more serious.  Hopefully, it is just IBS but you want to know for sure.  Take care...
