might be a dumb question but what do contractions feel like?

Ok so I must be dumb but what do contractions feel like? Actually what do Braxton Hicks feel like? I no from reading books that I would have been getting Braxton Hicks but I cant honestly say if I have or not. I have experienced a tightening of my stomach but thats only when he moves, wriggles or kicks a leg out which stops once he has stopped.
Please can someone offer advise as you can tell this is my first baby, I feel such a fool that I dont no what it feels like (BH) and wheather or not I have experienced them.
I have been having backache for the past 24 hrs could that be an indication labour is on its way?
thank you for any replys

I can answer some of this...

The BH feels like a tightening of the whole stomach and it last 45 seconds to a minute. It could go unnoticed but I really notice mine most of the time. Especially when you go to stand up and it feels like your stomach is a rock...that is a BH. They don't usually hurt but sometimes they can.

I have  had a few real contractions too. Mine wrap all the way around my belly into my back. It feels like a vice and the pressure bears down. Sometimes I get ones that feel more like intense menstrual cramps too.

Not sure about the backache... My back has hurt for months.
