removal of ivc filter?

Hello, I had an ivc filter put in before surgery in 2008 and did not have it removed.  I recently read of complications with having a filter in on a long term basis.  Do you recommend leaving it in or having it removed?

There are two categories of IVC filters: permanent and retrievable. It is recommended that a removable filter be removed when the risk of a blood clot traveling to the lungs has passed, or if a patient can take blood thinners.

Yes! I have a long Hx of PE's & my Gunther Tulip IVC filter was removed (6/8/18) after being in 10 years! It was a complicated surgery since it was embedded and tilted.
