hot tub and 17 weeks

Ok so I'm currently 17 weeks and 3 days pregnant and my family is bugging me about getting in the hot tub with them, is it safe to do so? It's an out door one and its like 40 some degrees outside. And I can set the hot tub temp at any temp. Could I get in with out hurting my baby ?

An obstetrics nurse who was one of our early members, Peekawho, did a test of this. She sat in a bathtub (at hot-bath temperatures, not even as hot as a hot tub and probably not as much of the body under the water) and took her temperature. Her body temperature went up well past 98.6 almost immediately. She said that when she cooled the water enough to bring her body even down to below 102 degrees, where it certainly should be if you are pregnant, the bath didn't even feel warm enough to sit in comfortably. If you are wanting proof of the safety of hot tubs (or lack thereof), get in one and take your temperature. The water has to feel awfully cool before your body stays at temperatures considered safe for the baby.

If it's a outdoor one wait 15 mins for the cool air to cool 8t then it should be fine try to limit it to 10 mins each get in for 10 mins then take a cool shower then get back in you should be fine

This is something my doctor just told me this week.  So, external temperature can be dangerous because it is like literally an oven.  I never really got why hot tubs were dangerous.  I'd skip it while pregnant to be honest.

Yeah, I wouldn't.
My doc strongly advises against it...
It could be real harmful for baby...
Not worth it.

Hot tubs should be completely avoided during pregnancy. The temps plus if the chemical smell is to harsh the smell could also be harmful. I'd say don't risk it.

Found some additional info thought it might help..       How to reduce the risk if you choose to use a hot tub:
Although the Association does not recommend using hot tubs during pregnancy, here are some steps you can take to reduce any risk:

Re-program your hot tub to maintain a lower temperature.
Limit time in a hot tub to 10 minutes or less.
Monitor the temperature of the water by dipping a thermometer in the hot tub.
Monitor your body temperature to avoid overheating.
Pay attention to warning signs such as becoming uncomfortable or if you stop sweating.                      The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) states that becoming overheated in a hot tub is not recommended during pregnancy. ACOG also recommends that pregnant women never let their core body temperature rise above 102.2º F.

I wouldn't recommend it at all. Any water temp. Above 100 degrees .. Is bad for your unborn baby. Definitely avoid any hot temperature water while pregnant.

if its at a temp that you would bath in its ok, so not too hot, a hot one where you have to inch yourself in is not healthy for bub as it raises your core tempurature and that can be harmful
