Strange stomach sloshing when I do abdominal workouts.

When I do abdominal workout, such as crunches, I can feel and hear my stomach sloshing around. It seems to have no side effects other then discomfort when I do crunches, the occasional burp, and I get tired quickly.

It seems to occur regardless of if I just ate.
I workout in the morning, not having eaten in 12 hours, and it still happens.
I workout an hour after I just ate, still happens.

This is impeding my workout progress and I have no idea why it is occuring.
I am 18 years old, 155 pound male.

I commonly had this occurrence when I was exercising at your age, especially during sit-ups or crunches, it's caused by having water in your stomach. You should be hydrating before exercising. Drinking excessive amounts of water while exercising can lead to an electrolyte imbalance causing cramps, fainting or other problems as well as that sloshing sound. Hydrate before hand and then drink water as necessary during your workout, it will increase your endurance and reduce the likelihood of cramps.

What if you stomach is making this noise when I workout first thing in the morning? I do a quick little 5 minute workout when I wake up, no hydration or food, but the noise and sensation is quite notable. When I do sit-ups I can feel the sloshing, my stomach feels like a water balloon and the noise is so loud it worries my husband. It causes a little discomfort as well. I'm 32, thin but not in good shape so this workout regimen is new.

It IS a strange phenomenon!  I've had it too.  Eating before you do the little work out would likely solve it.  It seems for most people to happen on empty stomachs.  Is it uncomfortable?  Otherwise, it's harmless  and if it just sounds weird but not hurting you or uncomfortable, I wouldn't worry about it.

Ahh, very enlightening Jcrow, thank you.
I was drinking excessive amounts of water during my workout and not enough beforehand.

Thanks once again.

Water can make a sloshing sound in your stomach.  Are you hydrating a lot before or while working out?
