It was doesn't in office... It was a urine culture. Everything normal except it showed 2 plus blood in urine. I'm so scared I have cancer. I will retest in a month and see a urologist if it comes out abnormal again. It showed no sign of infection
Having a positive urine dip for blood in you doctors office is not uncommon. Approximately 15 % of normal women may have some red blood cells in the urine. However, a work up is necessary to make sure there is not a problem. The most common cause of red blood cells in the urine is a bladder infection. Other caused such as kidney stones, menstruation contamination of the sample, kidney disease, and bladder of kidney cancer. A microscopic urine analysis is usually done to confirm the presents of red blood cells and urine culture is often done to rule out infection. If red cells are present in significant numbers, a CT scan of the kidneys and bladder are done. Cystoscopy, looking in the bladder with a small scope is usually performed as well. In some cases, bladder cytology, examination of the cells from the bladder, can be done but is no longer recommended as a routine test for microscopic hematuria . It is unlikely that you have bladder or kidney cancer BUT follow up is mandatory. J. Kyle Mathews, MD
