pituitary gland & chiari

Was wondering if anyone that has chiari or post-op decompression for chiari has had issues with their pituitary gland? I have had some recent issues arise within the last few months and had blood test done last week (awaiting results) and the doc I saw said it is not uncommon for people that have had decompression surgery for chiari malformation to have issues arise, unintentionally of course, since they are in such close proximity.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum,

May I ask, do you also have a DX of Chiari?

If not, you may want to visit the Pituitary forum here on Med Help....

With Chiari, it can compress the pituitary gland and cause some issues....not sure if you have had the MRI's that would be used to DX Chiari .....

Hi my name is Roy and I am having problems with my pituitary gland. First I started felling like I had no energy, I thought I was getting the flu but it got worse and worse, so I had bloodwork done and my testorone level was only 82 when it should be 399-1200. So I am now having injections done every other week. I am only 40 years old. Then my prolactin levels and cortisol levels weren't reading at all. My endocrinologist thought maybe I have pituitary tumors but after an mri it showed that I didn't. It said that my gland is too small for my age and sex. Normal gland height is 10-12mm and mine is only 2.8 so it's not functioning at all. I'm at a loss as to what can be done to fix that.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

May I ask, was he also DX''d with Chiari and was it addressed? Is the support group you are looking for Chiari or the pituitary glad issues?

There is a Chiari support group in Charlotte.....just google and you will find it.

Your brother can also get help here....we are a support group for those that can not get to locations for support.

My brother is suffering literally, his pituitary gland was removed a few years ago and it has been downhill ever since. Just wanted to know if there are any support groups out here in maybe the Charlotte, NC area.

My period disappeared was my only symptom but that's because I can't produce milk due to breast reduction when i was 18. I was on cabergolin for a while but the new insurance gave me more trouble about it so the new endocrinologist decided to see about working with the tyroid meds instead. My periods been back since.

If you don't mind me asking, what if anything did they or could they do for that? And what were some of your symptoms if you had any that led to the looking into your pituitary gland to be a possible problem?

Hi...I know a few members that have had issues with the pituitary...many times it is hidden bcuz it is so tight in there bcuz of the Chiari and once more room is made it lifts it head and says I am here too....

But many have a compressed or flattened pituitary gland, some have a cyst or tumor....there r a few diff things assoc with Chiari and the pituitary gland.
