Mood Swings Maybe?.....

Ok so I used to cut/burn and be very depressed but I have stopped. But for some reason now its like I just get this thing that suddenly hits me and I'm depressed or angry or sad or I get very very annoyed. And when I'm just with my friends and I'm really happy, and hyper, then when I go back to my parents I become very annoyed and angry and depressed?....... Why? Somebody please tell me. I am very confused.

Hi!
As I can see there are troubles on the home front and if you are close to your step-mom then please discuss these issues with her. It is difficult to comment whether you are just angry and emotionally upset or whether you have depression. Yes, depression is an illness. There is nothing wrong in going to a therapist/counselor. If you are sick or want to know whether you are sick or not, you need to go to a doctor. Please talk to your step-mom to start with. Take care!

Hi, and yes I do have an issue with my stepdad, to be quite honest I hate him. He did some stuff to me when I was younger. And the only good relationship I have with a parent is my Step-Mom I love her to pieces and can tell her anything. And also I have not been to a therapist or counsellor in the past and I refuse to go, also my parents do not know anything about my issues, they have seen scars on my body but do not say anything and I'm too scared to say anything.

Hi!
I am sorry that you feel depressed at times and have been depressed in the past to the extent that you have harmed yourself. However, I am equally happy that you recognize that you have a problem and are working towards it. This is the first step towards recovery. You notice that you are depressed in certain settings. Try and analyze why this is so. Is home atmosphere not good? Do you have too much time on hand? Is it that you do not share a good relationship with your parent? Guilt over something? Try and identify the cause.
Then try and look into factors that make you happy with your friends. Also, since you have a past history of self-harm and are now feeling depressed, it is very important to consult a psychologist/psychiatrist for a complete psychological assessment. Thereafter medical management along with behavior therapy will help you feel much better. Sometimes just counseling helps. Also, many a times, keeping yourself busy, having a goal in life and being fruitfully engaged in activities you love keeps depression at bay. But in all situations it is important to get a psychological assessment. Take care!

I sincerely hope you will find this information useful in your journey towards better health.

Hope you feel better soon! Good Luck and take care!
