Hi!
I can understand your apprehensions regarding a persistent hard lump. This occurs due to local immunization reaction and can persist for weeks and months. If there is no pain, redness, swelling on the skin and if there is no pain on pressing, then nothing needs to be done. However, please do not keep checking the lump again and again or squeeze it.
If there is pain and redness, then this may be an abscess and may need to be drained.
However, you could show this to your doctor. If need be an ultrasound can be done. In all probability it will be a reactive mass or a ganglion cyst or a neurofibroma (collection of nerve and fibrous tissue). Hope this helps. Take care!
No, a reactive mass is in reaction to something--in your case the immunization shot. The antigen in the shot starts a chain of reaction through which antibodies against that particular infection is formed in your body. This also starts a local inflammatory process. This process can form a lump that does not get absorbed back into the system. The lump is harmless. And yes, it can persist for 2 odd years and may be more.
However, the lump may also be a ganglion cyst or neurofibroma or a lipoma--all of which are non-cancerous. An ultrasound could be diagnostic and you should consult your doctor for this.--Hope this helps.
Also by reactive mass u mean it might be cancerous?
and its where i was vaccinated..Could it have something to do with the vaccine or could it be due to other causes?
Thank you
it has persisted for 2 and a half years...Could it be due to react to the vaccine after this long?
