Help?

I'm been on binge mode most of this past week and I really would like to know how to control this. I'm supposed to eat more, but once I actually take a bite off food I can't help myself from consuming the entire thing. It makes me sick because I'm not at all used to eating such large amounts of food. Please help? I'd appreciate some tips.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
I really hear your distress around feeling out of control with your eating. It can be a very scary and confusing thing. There could be many reasons why you are binging. It could be as a result of medical, nutritional, and/or emotional reasons. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer. I would recommend starting the process by making an appointment with your primary care physician to rule out any medical reasons. Secondly, you may seek the professional services of a dietitian. A dietitian can help you with nutritional education; identifying how much energy your body needs daily; and increasing mindfulness around meals. Finally, as food is often used to cope with emotional distress, I recommend speaking with a mental health therapist to explore and identify any underlying emotional distress that may be triggering the binging.  You can visit the bella vita website to take a quiz and learn more about eating disorders and treatment options.  Best wishes, Dr Patricia Pitts, PhD  The Bella Vita  Los Angeles, CA
