Umbilical Hernia

My boyfriend and I just found out he has a 4 month old from the previous gf. We are getting him every weekend, but he has an umbilical hernia. Do these hurt the baby? It is fairly big. My first thought is that it looked like another penis(enlarged) coming out of his belly button. I just want to make sure when he has tummy time, that this will not be painful for him.
and if anyone has had a baby with this, do they go away, ,or will it require surgery.

Hi my baby had a big hernia and they said if it doesn't go away time he starts school than they will operate but if worried take to doctors just to be on the safe side
