Perfume induced headaches

I have always been slightly sensitive to perfumes, but recently it seems that it has gotten way worse. I always get a headache when someone is wearing a perfume or sprays it near me. I read somewhere that a good way to get rid of this problem is to condition myself and surround myself with smells and eventually I wont have such a sensory overload. Is this a good idea or should I just avoid smells?

NO NO NO. avoidance is your best bet.  Sensitivity to chemicals in perfumes increase with exposure.  NOT the other way around.

The ions in perfumes apparently lock on and initiate headaches in some people.  Briefly and simply, these ions would be the same as electrons which allow flow of electricity but in this case create a biological short circuit in the human biochemical electrical system and causes your headaches.

It will be difficult to avoid perfumes so you might want to consider practcioneers of biofeedback to reduce headaches.  I am familiar with EEG Neurofeedback as a method to help control such headaches.  If you search on the term I just mentioned you may find a provider close by you.  Good luck.
