High CPK Blood Work

Hello,

I'm new here and had a question on a high CPK blood test.  First a little back ground on me.  I'm a 37yr old male, active, 5'-8" 155lbs and love running/working out.  I was running 4 days a week and would alternate a little strengh training.  I'm also on Blood pressure medicine, Losartan.  I've been on that for years.

I went to the Dr mid April for what seemed to be a sinus infection and was prescribed 10days of antibiotics.  They worked for the most part but I was left with head aches and ear aches.  I was sent for an MRI/MRA with contrast in early May and it came back normal.  Since the MRI/MRA I've had a shaky feeling in my arms/shoulders and felt a little light headed.  I was especially shaky after a good workout, which subsided a few days later but still there.  I went to the DR 5/21 and had a blood test taken with CPK.  All results were normal except CPK which was at 660.  They told me to stop working out for a few weeks and to repeat.  I went back tot the DR 5/23 because I was extremely worn out for two days, sever sweating at night, nausea, earache, sore throat, plus had a low grade fever.  DR said my ears looked good but my tonsils and glands were swollen.  I was given a strep test which came back positive And prescribed more antibiotics 10 days, 3 times a day.  I'm no longer tired, but still have the shakes and the side of my throat feels real tender/sore plus my right calf muscle feels sore.  Like I said I have not worked out for 8 days now.

Has anyone had a high CPK with my symptoms?  Any idea what is going on?  Can the strep have anything to do with the high CPK?  I've looked on line and see all kinds of scary stuff, MD, ALS...  I'm having the blood test retaken tomorrow AM, but wanted to hear from anyone who might have some experience with a high CPK or my other symptoms while I wait.

Thanks
Chris

Hi John,

Yes I received my results and they went back to normal, 91.  However my arms are still shaky, feeling like a "ratchet" when I move them.  I've since been to a neurologist who was able to feel the "jerkyness".  I'm scheduled for a EMG/NCS in a few weeks.  Headaches, sore throat and everything else gone.  I'm Just left with the shakes when I try to type, or do anything with resistance.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
Sorry for the delay in response.  CPK in itself may be a non-specific marker for inflammation and usually begins to decrease once whatever was causing the inflammation goes away.  Did you get the results of your blood work?
Thanks,
John
