My 1st was that way... Although I think I caused his need for constant holding. 1st I held him all the time & every cry, whimper, strange breathing pattern, grunting etc, I picked him up. Held him while sleeping so on. So he liked it & got used to constantly needing/wanting me. I created a very needy baby for 2 yrs, he NEVER slept through the night, never went to bed by himself etc. but I enforced, rewarded & promoted his behavior by holding him ALL the time. If he cried I always came running. The truth is this is a bad habit for both U & baby to get used to. He's only 3wks so by no means do I think U need to leave him crying for extended time. But 5 mins he's fine (of course as long as he's in a safe place-crib, pack&play, swing etc). But it's okay if u let him cry a lil-babies cry. Also he's. 3 wks so he can see more now. Get a mobile for the crib & a play gym/mat it gives him something to focus on. A swing helps out a lot & as faith^^ said it helps if they're up a little so they can see around so the swing helps or a bouncer.
