Upper abdomen, Lower rib cage movement

I am not pregnant, but am feeling movement in my lower right rib cage, or upper abdomen. It is the same feeling I had when pregnant, like there is foot or hand of the baby moving in that area. I have had it for a few days now, and am wondering what it could possibly be. Thanks!

I have the same symptoms for about a month. Always right upper quadrant of my abdomen, just below my ribs. Not painful, but uncomfortable. Some days the "spasms"/movements are worse than others and by the end of the day felt alot of soreness there (and also my rt. lower back). Felt just like a baby  kick or like an organ getting stuck on a rib. Really weird and was starting to freak me out. I came across this page in my frantic search for an answer and saw all of the similar stories. (which was a relief, except there didn't seem to be an answer to the question, "what is it?!")
Went for an abdominal US today which was normal,....however, it is felt that the symptoms are caused by a small ventral hernia in my rt. abdomen. As the peritoneal lining passes through the opening it causes the feeling of movement, and "fullness". When it snaps back into place through the opening, it causes the thumping feeling like a baby kicking. Going to confirm this  on a CT or MRI next week.
Hope this helps someone out there....

Hi, i was wondering if you received any results yet. I gave the same problem and most think i am crazy for describing it like when a baby kicks. It actually made me cry for once last night and it sermed to take longer for the episode to pass. At times,  it literally takes my breath away. Hoping you are feeling better.  Thank you
Hi I am having the same symptoms right now so what came out of your MRI?
Hi i had my MRI for the exact same thing but i have put up with this since being pregnant with my 1st 11 years ago! It got worse after my 2nd and wole lot worse having my 3rd who is now 18months. No GP would listen to me. I was called yesterday by the GP they have found something and to go in next friday. Finally getting answers after being ignored or fobbed off.
Thank you
Omg I have the same exact thing! I have been to the hospital 5 times in the past 2 weeks and no dr. are listening to me. I went for  multiple  CT scans, MRI and they found nothing, all blood work came back normal, what could it be? I’m becoming very concerned and dr. just seem to think I’m crazy! They wanted to prescribe antidepressants and Xanax. Help! I need answers...Has anyone found out what it is??

Hi, I've had this for the past month. It started to get really uncomfortable. Went to the ER. And they did a CT scan with contrast dye. He said I have a hiatal hernia, but he called it a "moving "hernia. My diaphragm has opened up and about 20% of my bowels were moving up into and out of my stomach almost continuously. It's not dangerous, he said, but I should have surgery. I believe its bringing up my b/p. I'm so dizzy and nauseas, I feel like I'm being kicked in the stomach. I hope this helps. God bless you all!! Jesus Loves You❤

Thanks for writing in. I know it will help people who are looking for answers about this weird symptom. Good luck with your surgery, it sounds like it will be a blessing.

Cryptic pregnancy. All tests are negative  and doesn’t show on ultrasound. Lasts longer than usual 9 months.

I have this too, left and right side upper abdomen under the ribs.
Endoscopy showed sliding hiatal hernia so that explains some of my symptoms (more so the ones near the centre) but there feels like quite vigorous movements where I’ve described.
Sometimes as though someone is reaching in rummaging through!
I have GERD and a lot of indigestion so to conclude, I feel a lot of these sensations may well be down to trapped wind/gas, intestinal organs having little spasms and the likes

That sounds terrible.  Is your doctor providing any ideas for you to try?  I'm a big fan of probiotics just to promote good digestive health.  I have an issue now with gut flora that got wiped out.  I feel all sorts of 'movement'.  Like a circus going on in there.  I also have GERD but this is better when I lose weight.  How long have you had your issue?

I honestly feel that it’s a trapped gas bubble! Two other people on this thread said that when they had ultrasounds, they saw gas bubbles. It was seen on mine too! They say it will go away. I don’t know.

How long has this been going on for you, LeanneFelices?  I guess I have to ask the obvious, we are sure you aren't pregnant, right?  Is it painful or more like uncomfortable?

This is crazy googled the same thing and found this page.  I'm 52 yrs old.  Mother of six and have not had a baby in 16 yrs.  I am not late on menstrual, but recently started feeling a fluttering sensation.  I have noticed it happens a lot after I eat.  I have also been addicted to Halls cough drops and noticed it happening a lot after I eat one.  Anyone else experience it after eating or taking Halls?

So I feel movement too but it doesn't hurt.  It feels like it felt when I was like 5 months pregnant.  I just would be sitting at the desk and just feeling movement.  I can't be pregnant but I did go out of town to see a friend 5 months ago.  Just wondering what came of every body else's?

I have this same thing for the first time and my daughters 5. I think it might be phantom kicking like when amputees still feel there limbs. But it does feel exactly like a baby putting a foot under my ribs. When I feel it with my hand it feels like a muscle spasm. I notice more before a period. Could be due to the muscles contracting and causing spasms in the other muscles.

I have the exact same symptoms! I also have really bad pains that last for hours!! I have IBS but this is so different! I have also been having accidents in my pants. Sometimes it just pours out and other times I just can't make it to the restroom. I have had a CT scan, X-rays and tons of blood work test. They found NOTHING! I am thinking about having a general surgeon take a look. It's causing me to miss work almost losing my job.

Amberannemunsell, how old are you? I took a pre-menopause pill once that had soy and black coash or (cocash) and was experiencing almost the same thing as you. I guess I had a reaction to the soy or the other ingredient. It stopped once I quit the pills.

Has anyone heard of slipping rib syndrome? I feel like a baby is kicking me under my bottom right ribs, but I'm not pregnant. This syndrome seems to fit the bill for my symptoms - but it is not painful in my case, just a weird sensation.

I have had this feeling for past 3 years! Twice, the (2)doctor saw nothing. I just had an x-ray,  and my doctor said she saw a fairly large gas bubble! The movement varies from upper right quadrant to lower left, so she said it is possible that it moves around depending on what I'm doing or ate.  I'm told it will eventually go away.

I have been having this for about two days. I am thinking it may be due to muscle strain from work and sitting over a computer too long. I have scheduled a discount massage in hopes it helps. If this continues I will see a health care professional. I wish previous responders would update on status.

So I had the massage and had her focus on my back and neck only. I had the odd feeling for one more day and it has yet to return. I would like to note that I passed an impressive amount of gas overall. Perhaps it is a muscular and gas issue like air getting trapped because of muscle tightness. Good luck to you all I hope this helps.
Thank you for the update! I think I will schedule a massage and see if that helps as well!

I have this also! There is no pain but lots of movement like a babies foot in my upper abdomen and at my ribs on the right side. I am 59 and have no uterus and no gallbladder. My PA said it may be a hernia but did not suggest any tests.

I have just started experiencing this as well. Feels like a tennis ball sized baby moving just below my left ribs. I am a 46 yr old female and still have all my parts (besides my tonsils lol) what in the world is it?

I am stunned that so many are experiencing this symptom!  I have been feeling movement in my upper right abdomen area, right below the rib cage, for several months.  It feels exactly like a pre-born baby moving around in there, but I am not pregnant.  Tonight I googled "hernia" but that did not match, next I found this website.  Like some others have stated, this seems way too high for cysts in the ovaries, but I have had cysts removed 20+ years ago.  I've also considered worms of some kind.  It is very disturbing because the movement is so noticeable and uncomfortable.  I think I will call the doctor!

I’m experiencing the same exact thing for about a month, went to several dr.,hospitals and even had several CT scans and MRI everything is coming up normal. Blood work is normal as well.  Did you ever find out what is was? Help!! I feel like I’m losing my mind.
I'm so glad it's just not me...ghost babies moving around in there I swear...
I have had the same movements for 9 months now. Doctors can’t find anything. Has anyone thought this to be cryptic pregnancy?
The only thing Joanacker is that if went on for 9 months, you'd have had the baby.  Pregnancy is something with a beginning and ending.  So, this would be a doubtful thing for it to be.

Has anyone been checked for tape worms?
I have the same feeling but haven't seen the doc.

We have no idea what we are eating anymore, or where it really comes from, for that matter. I was asked if I had been checked for tapeworms earlier today after I explained to my daughter what I was feeling. Wouldn't there be other symptoms if it were tapeworms? If that is what it is, there must be a large one inside of me with all that bumping and movement going on! And it is only coming from one spot under my right rib cage over my liver area, not all my intestines.
You described exactly what I felt this morning. Under my right rib cage over the liver area. Made me paranoid because I drank wine the night before.

It seems way to high...for ovaries. and no discomfort here. Hmmm..

I am 50, do not have a gallbladder, and almost every day and night i feel like there is something pushing, poking or brushing up against me-from the inside right below my left rib. If I were to look in time, I believe if I looked fast enough,  it would be very visible. Reminds me of pregnancy but higher up. Nerve wracking but painless. Help! I feel like an idiot even complaining to my Husband. I had a dream last night that it popped out like the size of a tennis ball and woke up right before it felt like it was coming through. Nice huh?
