Questions about CD4 and viral load after HIV infection

Hi,

A friend of mine was recently infected with HIV. He has been on medication for 2 weeks. Before that, his blood work report said that his CD4 was 269 and viral load was 100,000+. What does it mean? What we wanted to know is if this is normal for a newly infected patient, or it is severe.

Thanks a lot!

It really depends, in some CD4 can drop faster then in others, a CD4 under 200< is considered AIDS, but with the meds in 2017 he will boost CD4 very fast and he will lower the viral load in a few months to undetectable level. Good luck!
