Clinical trial design

In the clinical trial design about obesity with type 2 diabetes , the exclusion criteria includes patients should be excluded if they have fasting glucose levels greater than 270 mg/dl, I wonder the the clinical significance of the 270 mg/dl? In the T2DM clinical guidance, I didn't find this value.

Fasting levels of greater than 270, represent extremely poor control.   Patients with this fasting level likely have multiple complications.  I suspect this is why they would exclude people having these levels.
