"Alert" Dogs?

We have a family friend whose daughter has Type 1- they have been working with their dog, whom they purchased for the purpose of being an 'alert dog' to alert the family when the child's blood sugar is low.  So far, it seems like the dog is pretty good at this- she's been able to recognize a low before the monitor has several times.

Have you ever entertained the idea of a trained dog to help you be aware of your lows or highs?
