Can IP6 cause elevated potassium in blood tests?

I had a blood panel done at my last doctor appointment. I didn't ask for it, just got it, no symptoms. It showed an elevated potassium of 5.2. Most sites show this in the normal range but they said their normal range is 5.1. I was told different labs have their own values on this.

Hello~Yes, many labs have different values and when there is such a small deviation such as the one are talking about, I wouldn't worry.

You can get rid of high potassium in the body naturally by drinking more water, drinking less milk and less fruit juice, and sticking with an overall low-potassium diet.

Potassium Lowering Cooking Tips:

1.Vegetables and potatoes should be cut up into small pieces and boiled in plenty of water as this reduces their potassium content. ...
2.Once boiled, vegetables and potatoes can be fried, roasted or added to casseroles.
3.Try to avoid vegetables which have been cooked by steaming or microwaving.

I hope this helps some.

But be careful -- potassium is one of the most essential nutrients.  Something that is more likely the problem than consuming too much of it is possibly not consuming enough magnesium and other electrolytes -- electrolytes are in electrical balance, and too much of one, which in our society is usually calcium because of the overconsumption of dairy, will cause the body to be low in others.  The one that is usually low in our society is magnesium, as it's mostly found in green leafy vegetables which so many people think they don't like.  As for potatoes, these shouldn't be eaten in abundance anyway, as they are both very high on the sugar metabolism scale and in the nightshade family, which can cause inflammation.  Most of us do eat a lot of bananas, though, which are high in potassium.
By the way, another way to use it up is to exercise a lot -- potassium is essential to preventing cramping and muscle problems, along with magnesium, so the more you move, the more you use it.
I take magnesium taurate and IP6 with inositol. I am watching my potassium rich foods and will see what my next blood panel has for potassium. Everything else was normal on this first blood panel. I'm told since the blood draw was a hard one, requiring five sticks, and feeling around in the vain, that was probably the cause.

I assume you say you're using an IP6 supplement, but what else do you consume that might be very high in potassium?  Is your doc worried?  If you are taking that supplement, it is made from inositol, part of the Vitamin B complex in most supplements, and a form of phosphorus.

The doctor just wants me to come back for another $300.00 blood panel. Having a lot of medical people in my family, including a doctor, I know most doctors work for hospitals now and have to keep that money rolling in. My family said to just ignore it but I will have another test run at my next checkup. I'm just trying to find ways to lower the potassium until then.
