Experiences with conventional doctors

I've had a number of negative interactions with doctors when i bring up alternative remedies. I feel that doctors do not take me seriously when i mention things such as acupuncture for my back pain. Does anyone have similar experiences? Also, it feels as though doctors are not aware of the research that shows CAM remedies are efficacious for many ailments. I want to continuing going to my primary care doctor but i do not like how she is dimissive of my suggestions for alternative therapies.

Hello~sadly, most "conventional" doctors do not agree with the alternative ones. I have found that a good, reputable naturopath is the best of both worlds, the ones I have been too really listen and dig deep into how they can help, plus, they will refer you to a "conventional" doctor if need be.

Currently, I am living i New Zealand, I was fortunate to locate and MD that does take me serious when I mention alternative methods, and he even will suggest some himself, so, they are out there. When I was living back home in the states, there were few, but like I said, then I had some wonderful naturopaths.

I am big into the Naturopathic way of healing although I know that the others are very needed as well.

I hope you will be able to find a doctor that will listen and help you.

There is no fix for this -- your doctor is in financial competition with other forms of medicine and was taught in medical school, reading books written by doctors being paid by pharmaceutical companies, that other forms of medicine than allopathic are a fraud.  Now, most doctors do recognize acupuncture, as the research on it is quite persuasive, so that's odd, but with most natural medicine the research really isn't persuasive -- without the ability to patent natural substances the money just isn't there to do the level of study you can do with the huge amounts of payoff down the road for pharmaceutical products.  So you either do what most of us do, which is just not tell your doctor about the natural products you use and avoid the fuss and their complete ignorance of what you're talking about, or you find a physician who has an open mind about it or even practices it, such as practitioners of integrated medicine.  Warning, though -- the latter almost never take insurance.
