Newbie and desperate for a baby

Hi all, I'm new here.
Here's my story: my ex partner and I TTC for 13 months without success. He has a kid from a previous marriage. He refused to see a Dr and we finally broke up over it. That left me 37, single and desperate for a baby. Now I'm 40 yo. Together with dh we decided we want a baby. It was high time to begin looking at ivf treatments. Tests showed nothing but a low amh (10.8). So apart from being old (40), and fat (!) there's no explanation.
I'm finally due to start injections as soon as my period starts. It's due in a day but I've got no sign. Most eagerly anticipated period ever! I'm so over waiting. It's taken 10 months from seeing my GP to get to this point. And now I feel like my period will never start. I'm a little beside myself.
I'm guessing it's not a great sign that I'm freaking before I even start.. Those needles are longer than I expected. I also know this is a long journey so I'm keen to hear from any experienced ivf-ers with any tips, tricks or advice on how to cope. Especially how you cope with waiting?
We're quite far from home, family and friends – this makes things even harder..
Thanks for reading x

Well let this be a kind of a diary then..Hope ladies you're all ok. Just wanted to update after mons spent on treatments. I really struggled my needle phobia with ivf#1. Dh helped me much with it. So our 1st shot failed. Preparing for ivf#2 did reflexology, ate pineapples, brazil nuts. I really wasn't expecting #2 to work as 8 of my 10 eggs died before day 5. Our biotexcom performs it only with day 5 blasts. So they transferred the remaining 2 B & B grade. Only 1 implanted. First tested with home cheapie on day 13 after ET. (Though it was extremelly difficult to survive up to one day before beta not testing!!) Currently prego with baby#1.  Babydust to all!!
