What causes ATN to stay active?

I was misdiagnosed and was recently re-diagnosed with TN due to zoster sine, however I think I have ATN. What causes flare ups and the virus to stay active? I have a tumor in my thyroid on the right side and a wisdom tooth left on the left side, are these contributing to my episodes or flare ups?
