Can a type 2 diabetic take Alpha lipoic acid 300mg tablets daily?

Can my diabetic mom take 300mg of alpha lipoic acid supplements daily if she suffers from severe diabetic neuropathy pain in her feet and is on medications like metformin 500 mg, glimipiride 1000 mg and Teneligliptin 20mg for blood pressure?

I have ordered ALA 300 mg tablets but I'm afraid that it might make her blood sugar level too low.

Should she take it?

ALA is often used as a supplement to try to improve neuropathy.  As purple said a pharmacist is the person to talk to about possible medications interactions.

How is her hba1c?  Typical sugar levels?  High sugar levels can cause neuropathy, so getting the best control possible can be beneficial to improve or reverse it.

The best person to talk to about this is either her pharmacist or her doctor- those are the two people who need to be included when adding supplements or other medications to her mix.  They will have a better idea of what she is taking now and what her medical history is, in order to tell you if it will be a problem.
