Brain Stem & Cerebellum Stroke Coma for 2 weeks

My child's father (he's 44, high blood pressure but otherwise healthy) had a brain stem stroke also effecting his cerebellum. He's been in a coma for 13 days now & did not do an MRI until day 9! He's been on a ventilator since arriving at the hospital & usually is breathing with the ventilator, at times above it & initiating his own periodically. His eyes open but doesn't follow any commands. Blinked on cue a few different instances but they're saying it's a fluke. He's not brain dead there is activity. His legs twitch & arm occasionally. He does somewhat 'posture' when pain is inflicted. He tries to lift head but they say that's him trying to cough. Just yesterday (day 12) he passed gas a couple times which he wasnt earlier in his stay. He seems to be at least somewhat aware that family is present by having his eyes open (nurses say he usually doesn't) he coughed on cue a few times as well. Tears fall from his eyes when talking about sad times or singing a fave song we shared. Just not sure if it's me piecing hope's together wanting the best or what. They want to take him off life support saying he wouldn't want to live like this, but I know he's still in there, but I understand it's unlikely to live a meaningful life after this. Any input on his condition would be GREATLY appreciated. No need to sugar coat for comfort,  I do enough of that :)
