STD scare

Last Thursday I woke up with cold sweats, and noticed a minor rash on the tip of my foreskin. Initially I didn’t think much of it since I am not circumcised, I figured it was just a minor infection. However ever since Thursday I have felt nausea, and. have had a slight fever and tingling in my groin area and thighs. The tingling stayed the same over the weekend, and the rash did not change, by Sunday I had to do something so I went to the doctor so I could get checked out. The doctor said that it could be a herpes infection and prescribed me a oral pill to take twice a day, along with a anti fungul cream to rule out Balanitis. She also took blood tests and urine samples, and I should hear back from the doctors office by Friday. The tingling sensation in my thighs and groin has not stopped and it looks like I have developed mild trush on the back of my tongue. The sore is gone, however the other pain remains. I do have psoriasis but it only shows on my elbows. What could this be ?

I asked about weight lifting because I was wondering if you pinched a nerve in the spine and you are feeling in the "boxer short" area? You don't have pain anywhere else or have incontinence of any kind? HIV1 doesn't breakout that often in the genital area and most people don't know they have it. But it can come up at any time. Yes it isn't quite as common as HSV 2

Hi Answers38,
Yes I think so. If your gf gave oral to you it can be passed that way. Since about 90% of adults have HSV it is hard not to pass HSV1. I hope the burning or tingling in the boxer short area goes away. If not you may want to talk to a neurologist. Have you lifted weights recently or had any back problems?

Thanks for the reply, yes the tingling has be gone for days, I do lift weights every day. Does HSV 1 breakout often in the genital area, I heard that it wasn’t as common as HSV 2 since it apparently doesn’t like the genital area.

Sounds like you had an initial herpes outbreak. It can take 1-2 months for an initial one to clear up.  Neuropathic pain is part of the course for herpes

Results came back negative though, and the rash was gone in a couple days, no lessons blisters or anything. What are your thoughts ?
So the HSV was negative? Did they do a molecular test or culture of the sore you had, or was it a blood test?  It sounds like it was a fungus. The nerve sensation you are feeling may be something else. But if it came on at the same time I'm not sure.  What did the doctor say about that?

So it was positive for HSV 1 which I already knew. However i wasn’t having a current symptom even though I do get cold sores once in a while. HSV 2 was negative. The test they did was blood IGM and IgG and tested for all other STD’s as well. I guess it could have been a hsv 1 outbreak in my genital area, however the rash was gone after a few days. I also don’t feel the burning sensation anymore. The entire thing with symptoms lasted a little over a week. Never saw any blister or sores. It was almost like a semi scab. I do have psoriasis so maybe that was the issue.
And to be honest once I knew my results, I calmed down, and the pain seeemed to subside. I have read that it can also be caused by anxiety since that is the only thing I was focusing on the entire week. It was driving me crazy.
Also the scab or minor sore came first, then the sensation in my entire groin area.
It still sounds like HSV to me. You could have had HSV1 on your genitals briefly. It also can take quite a while for a blood test to show positive for hsv. A few months.
Yeah I will get tested again in a couple months, the person I had unprotected sex with got tested as well, and her results came in today. She is clean. I don’t think it’s HSV in my genitals, however who knows. We will see in 3 months.
What are your credentials Mycopladma ?
Healthcare professional who also has HSV1
So you think it was a HSV 1 outbreak in my genital area ? I have had hsv1 since I was a child. But my outbreaks always occurred on my lips, never in my genital area.

I will for sure, ty for all the assistance with this, it’s always good to get a second opinion. I can hardly see the sore anymore, so that’s a plus. However my area underneath my boxers is still on fire, and I also woke up with shoulder pain this morning. Hopefully I get these results soon, so I can deal with it and move on.
Thanks again for all the feedback just got my results and according to the doctor I’m negative on HSV 2 is there anyway you can clarify what my results say. It seemed like she was unsure how to read the doc, wish I could post my sheet
Answers38,
You can post the results on here and make sure you remove all the personal information and the doctors name etc. Also you can post it on my message board but still remove the personal information. Was the HSV type 1 negative?
mkh9
Type 1 was positive, but I knew that already.
How do I post the results
I agree with Mycoplasma2. But you can post as a comment or go to my message board under mkh9. I think you can click on the top tab that says profile and either copy and paste it under messages, or there is a place to add a photo and I think you can download it there.

Sounds like it was a fungal infection but possibly something else is causing the neuropathy (burning) you are getting.  I guess you have to wait and see if anything come up as recent infection. I wouldn't worry about the white tongue. See if you can use a tongue cleaner such as on the back of your toothbrush and try to remove the white coating on the tongue. If it comes off easily it is just bacteria not yeast. If it bleeds with a light  removal it could be yeast. I don't think you have HIV or something that would lower your immune system. I wonder did you go swimming a pool. Maybe the chemicals in the pool gave you a chemical burn?

Ty for all the responses you given so far. Obviously all I can do is wait and see what the results say, however coming to a couple possible conclusions does give me somewhat peace of mind. I did go swimming in a pool on that Sunday, and I flew back Tuesday which was over Labor Day weekend. The infection didn’t start till last Thursday. I was mainly referring to the tongue been coated with thrush on the very back as another sign for a fungal infection, and also not a sign of herpes as far as I know. I have read and looked at every possible option on line, and not going to lie it is driving me crazy. The other possibility is Candida which i have read a lot about and it seems to share a lot of the same symptoms. Thanks again for all the info.

p.s. have you tried antifungal cream on the areas to see if it would work? Have you had athletes foot? That would give you and idea of how it feels.

The doctor did prescribe me a anti fungal cream, and it helped immediately, however as i mentioned in my first post. She also prescribed me oral tablets to take twice a day specifically for a herpes infection Incase that is the case, but I figured that would just slow down the break out or not make it worse. Becasue the cream has made it disappear almost completely. Now it almost just looks like a white dot under the tip of the foreskin. I did go swimming while in NC, so I don’t know if that may have caused it. I have never had athletes foot either. The doc did give me a blood test, so I guess I will know by Friday. The burning however has not gone away since Thursday and it is in my entire groin area to include my thighs, with no other rashes visible. Also the back of my tongue is coated with what looks to be thrush. What are your thoughts ? I’m in hopes this is just a fungal infection. Thanks again for all the advice, waiting till Friday is driving me insane.

Hi, We are not doctors on these sites. But I can try to give you some advice. Did you have unprotected sex?  What happened before this? Do you have any rash on your chest or palms or soles of your feet? If you didn't have unprotected sex it could just be a fungus. Herpes looks like tiny blisters in a cluster and it hurts a lot. Does it itch? It does sound like a fungus or maybe a virus or even an allergy to something. But I need more information.
thanks,

Ty for the quick response, I did have unprotected sex with the same partner and we have had sex for the last 3 months, with no issues.  She is also not having any issues. I did spend some time traveling over the weekend and spent several hours on a plane, flying from NC to AZ.  I have no clue what this could be, the sore as I mentioned is almost completely gone, and it was only one sore, but never resembled a blister, or multiple blister. There was never any itching involved, just feels like the entire area underneath my boxer shorts is on fire, including my inner thighs, with no rashes showing.  I still feel nausea, and of course the thrush on the back of my tongue. Thanks again for the response
Hi, when you travelled what did you do?  Did you swim or do anything that would cause you to  "contaminate" the area?  What did or does the sore look like? Is it raised, red, have a indented center? It could be Herpes. If you had oral sex (received) from your girl friend and she had herpes you could get genital herpes type 1 that way. usually looks like tiny blisters. For Type 2 it seems like she would know she had that since it breaks out more often and She may not know she has it. Herpes can also come out for the first time after years. So it is not really her fault. about 90% of adults have oral Herpes and a lot don't know they have it as they don't get the blisters.  Did you get a blood test for Herpes from the sore? A molecular test would be better. That would prove it is the cause of what is going on. Herpes can give you nerve issues during an outbreak. The good news is if it is type 1 it usually only breaks  out one or a few times and that is it. Type 2 is more frequent. So if you do have it she should get tested by a Herpes IgM and IgG test for type 1 and 2. You can't really do much about it except you the treatment.  But if the blood test is positive for type 1 but the IgM is negative and IgG is positive then it is a past infection that just decided to break out for the first time. If they did it from the sore then you would know for sure. It might not be a bad idea to check for Syphilis also. It takes several weeks to get primary Syphilis. It is usually not in straight men and it is very low prevalence in women. I assume you are pretty young so I doubt it is shingles. I think there would be no doubt with the doctor about that. But then you never know. Shingles is very painful. Were you bitten by any insects? Did you go hiking or camping? Some rashes can be painful depending on what caused it.
thanks,
