Is there a law in Arkansas that says your pcp can't give you xanax

My pcp told me 14 months ago that he could not give them to me due to a law passed in Arkansas is this true. I have bad flashbacks from seeing my husband die two years ago.

I'm just confused by this -- if it's not illegal, and it isn't, it would seem to be a violation of medical ethics not to give it to anyone even those who absolutely need it.  You know, if you're in the hospital and need a surgical procedure of any kind, you will be given a benzo as part of the anesthesia.  They're definitely available.  This is really sad, even though I don't think this is going to help you get over this problem.  What's the status of CBD oil in your state?  It has been studied for PTSD and has some very positive results, and though I don't know if you have PTSD, it might be an option if it has been made legal to obtain in your state.  Just trying to come up with an option.  Something to try:  call the local branch of the AMA and find out what's going on, because again, it is legal to prescribe it, it just has to be done within the legal protections.  Are there any free clinics in your area?  They might be more open to helping you find someone who does prescribe benzos if you're insistent on trying that drug, given the different type of docs who are willing to work at them.

It is getting harder in some places to get benzos.  Especially hard in Britain.  But in your case, Mom is right, this probably isn't the right med.  Therapy is probably the right choice as you know where you're problem started -- most of us really don't.  What you really need to do is get over the trauma and move on, and when that's hard to do, therapy can be very helpful.  Drugs might suppress some symptoms, but they won't cure your grief.  And I don't think benzos would be the drug to take for that problem, most likely.  But they're not illegal, just hard to get, and some docs don't want to get involved with addictive drugs right now because the feds are on one of their periodic tears about addictive drugs.  If you're insistent about taking a benzo and your doc won't prescribe it, see a psychiatrist, they probably know how to do it within the law.  But again, I'd try talking this one out -- a drug may very well just postpone the already prolonged grieving from dissipating over time.  Good luck whatever you try.

I looked up Arkansas and they do have legislation making it harder for doctors to prescribe benzo's.  They have to look at something called the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program in order to prescribe.  All things are monitored and controlled.  I think it is fair to ask for clarification though from your doctor.

What other things do you do for the grief and ptsd you basically have after your husband's death?

There's nothing to do. The flashbacks won't let me have any peace of mind.
Have you tried a long term medication such as an SSRI?  PTSD is treatable but I know this is so difficult.  Such a painful thing!!

I will look to see if there is a law, but there is probably a better choice for you if you are having anxiety long term than Xanax.  The problem with Xanax is dependency and addiction.  Your pcp may fear this and hence, be reluctant to prescribe it for an extended period of time.  You probably take it as needed so not a situation you have going on, but food for thought.  I'm so very sorry about seeing your husband die----  that HAS to be very traumatic and horrifying and certainly, visions of that are going to linger for a very long time with perhaps a panicky feeling when it happens?

I've been on xanax 31 years I'm pzssed addiction my body runs the show now. Won't quit detoxing no matter how long I'm off them.
Ugh, that's got to be hard. So, we have a forum here and I love the people there.  They are so good at talking about this stuff.  Don't let the name of the forum scare you off---  they can talk to you about detoxing and what your body and mind are going through being without Xanax.  The Addiction/Substance Abuse forum.  https://www.medhelp.org/forums/Addiction-Substance-Abuse/show/77.  You'll get great help there!
