I buy most stuff spontaneously, that I buy, Only when things get really expensive do I take a lot of time over it. I think this question for me has to be what little thing around the house do I get the most use out of or pleasure out of, possibly way out of proportion to the amount of forethought I put into picking it up and tossing it into my cart.
I have a little kitchen gadget that I use all the time, and I'm glad I found it (wherever I did) and every time I use it I think what a great tool it is and am glad someone invented it. It's a really small thing, so hardly worth describing. But you know those bottle openers that basically are a little tabbed lever (i.e., the classic flat silver bottle opener with one pointy end and one round end, and little tabs to grip the edge of the can for leverage)? Someone wisely made something very similar but out of thick acrylic and a bit wider between top and tab, for breaking the suction on jar lids so you can easily unscrew them. It's so easy, and so nice never to have to struggle with a jar. I've seen lots of things for opening jars, usually huge and clumsy and related to trying to grasp the whole lid and turn it. This just breaks the suction, which is all you need. Therefore it's just a simple little church-key type opener and is a cinch. I looked around online to see if I could find a photo I could link. This might not be the brand (and mine is white) but there's something called the Brix Jarkey jar opener that looks similar. If you google it, look for the photo of the person's hand lifting the opener, so you get what I mean. It's not explanatory to just look at the object. :)
My beagle~ I saw her on pet finder, filled out the adoption papers and 2 days later drove 2 plus hours one way to get her. They had no info on her, they found her wandering in that town and knew she had been severely abused. It was love at first sight! When she came to our house she had no clue how to be a dog. I was the only one who could pick her up. When my hubby would reach down to pet her or pick her up she would curl up, lay on her back and cry. We figured out that a man had hurt her. She didnt know what toys were or what the touch of a gentle hand was. It took a long time to gain her trust and now i am happy to report she is a typical beagle, loves her toys, her bed, getting petted, barking and jumping into our laps. Best money i have ever spent!
My 2nd one.......hmmm, i think it has to be the "Get Naked" canvas painting i found at my favorite store! It hangs in our bedroom!!!
Okay . . . guess I'll start.
First, it wasn't expensive but definitely spontaneous. I bought for 12 dollars at the grocery store a tree. It was like a twig in a gallon pot. I got it in like March and it was still frozen in my area so I housed it in my basement and brought it up to sit by a sunny window every day, watered it and took it back to the basement. So weird. But I did it. And then we planted it. It's now been a few years. That 12 dollar tree is beautiful and provides lovely shade on my patio. Like it looks over us happy to be there. The poor guy was probably doomed had I not done the whole kept in basement but still provided love thing . . . it repays me with UV protection while we eat dinner on the patio. :>)
Second, my fur baby. We had a dog pass unexpectedly . . . tragically actually. Heart broken. Devastated. I looked online. Found a dog with a cute face that was a puppy and sent them a deposit to hold it. Picked her up at 7 weeks. She looks really nothing like that initial picture of her when she had limited fur and closed eyes. LOL And she wasn't supposed to shed and hair balls are the norm in every corner of my house now. But gosh, I am so glad I went for it and got her. My husband was NOT in the know and he brings it up occasionally. She wasn't cheap but he thinks she was half as much as she really was. Don't tell him.
