Bacterial vaginosis

On october 4th i went to the ob/gyn because my vagina was sore and hurting. They did a swab and I had bacterial vaginosis. She prescribed flagyl to take 2 times a day for a week. I finished all of it and i was still having issues and didnt think ot was gone. I went back on october 17th because that is when my annual physical exam was. I told her I was still having issues so she did another swab and I still had bacterial vaginosis. She was going to give me flagyl again but i told her obviously it didnt work so I wanted something else. She then prescribed me metronizadole gel to use for 5 nights. I used all 5 nights of that and still was having issues. I went back on the 24th and she swabbed again and I still had bacterial vaginosis. She gave me clindamycin cream to use for 7 nights. I used the last of it last night however I stoll feel like I have it. They told me that if the cream dodnt take care of it then she wanted me to schedule a follow up and talk about long term treatment. I however feel that i shouldnt have to do a long term treatment. I feel there is something causing it and they need to figure out what is causing it so I can get rid of it. I am taking multivitamins and eating activia yogurt and taking a probiotic also. I am doing everything I can to try to get rid of it. Anyone have any advice on what might be causing it or how to get rid of it?

Men can pass bacteria that creates bacterial vaginosis in women and often if a woman has a case of BV that is not cured with the first round of medication, her partner is also treated at the same time for round two.  That's a pretty common thing and the doctor of the woman often gives the script for the male partner to take with the female patient he treats.  No sense treating one if the other is just going to pass it right back to her.

The first round of treatment didnt cure it and then i was given the gel the second time around and they didnt treat my partner the 2nd time around. It still wasnt cured with the 2nd round of medication so I was given the cream for the 3rd round of medication. I jsit had my appointment today and she said everything looked good.
Just to clarify i went through 3 rounds of medication because it wasnt going away and not once did they treat my partner or mention anything about treating my partner

There are different types of BV. I had too much good bacteria because I was over treating for the standard bad bacteria kind.  I stoppped taking probiotics and did a baking soda douche twice a week apart as prescribed and it’s fixed though it did take a few weeks to feel completely “normal” down there.  My dr took swabs, looked under the microscope and ran other tests because I was persistent and I didn’t have odor which is a primary  symptom of the bad bacteria. Hope you figure it out and feel better!

Thanks, i hope i do too. I didn’t have the odor either. I have an appointment tomorrow to check to see if it is gone but since it is that time of the month i am not sure if they will be able to do a swab and tell or not. I think it might be gone but I can’t tell for sure.
Don't douche with anything.  The vagina is self cleaning and that is not recommended by any doctors.  I just want to clarify that!  Let us know what the doctor says!
Perhaps specialmom is a doctor that disagrees, but doctors obviously  do prescribe it since I was precribed it by mine. She was the first out of three Gynos I went to to actually care about more than symptoms and focused on getting a proper diagnosis.
The douche wasn’t to clean, it was to balance the PH which my body obviously wasn’t doing in its own and was causing great discomfort. No thanks to the probiotic which was actually counter productive and numerous women take for preventative health these days.

If you have a regular sex partner, he should also be taking the antibiotics at the same time and in the same dose as you. Otherwise (my doctor says) there is the risk of it just getting passed right back to you.

I have been with the same guy for over 7 years and he is the inly sex partner I have ever had. We have had unprotected sex for years with no issues of bv. I had it once about 6 months ago or more and used the gel and it went away no problems. Now I am having trouble getting rid of it and it has been like 3 weeks or more since we have done anything. My doctor has not once said anything him needing to be treated with antibiotics.
There is probably something of a difference of opinion among doctors on the issue of whether BV can be passed back and forth. But given that you are having trouble getting it to go away, there is at least the possibility that you are being re-exposed to it. To test the idea, it's hard to argue that it wouldn't be worth taking another round of Flagyl with your partner taking it at the same time, rather than just assuming that is not it and moving on to long-term treatment.
I dont think that any doctor would prescribe him the antibiotic and that is the issue because they dont consider it to be sexually transmitted. I am not going to do a long term treatment. I have an appointment on monday to see if it is gone or not.
Have you asked your doctor? Or are you just saying you are sure this will not happen?
I'm asking because if you google whether men can contribute to their partner getting BV, there is some research that suggests they can in certain circumstances. It doesn't seem to be absolute.
I have not asked my doctor yet but since it is technically not considered sexually transmitted and he is not her patient i dont think she would even be able to prescribe him the antibiotic also. I think the bv might finally be gone also. I have an appointment on monday so we will see. However, i will be on my monthly when i go for my appointment on monday so i dont know if she will be able to test to make sure it is gone.
If it is gone, that's great. You might also consider condom use with your boyfriend if there is any chance he did pass it back to you.
I have thought about using condoms if i do continue to have issues with it. I have my appointment tomorrow so I will find out for sure if it is gone
