Bipartite Patella surgery recovery?

My son had Bipartite patella surgery 4 months ago.  The smaller fragment was taken out.  He has been doing therapy 3x a week.  He can walk and bike without any issues.  If he tries to run or jump, he will get sharp pain.  His quad is still really week, which the Dr says is why it hurts.  The fragment was in the outer top right of his right knee.  But his pain is coming from lower inside of his patella.  Would love to hear anyone who has had this surgery and how they are doing now.
Thank you,
CHasd

So, is he in pt to help with muscle strength?  I have a son about that age.  They are in such a state of flux with their bodies!

I have not had this surgery but am familiar with it.  How old is your son?  Is his doctor saying this pain is normal and giving any indication of how long it will last?

He is 15.  Dr Says the pain is from the quad being weak. We are hoping the pain will go away when the quad gains more strength.
