Hepatitis C

I was at a store to frame some pictures. The attendant gave me a razor to cut the tape on the package which contained the pictures and accidentally I’ve cut my finger with the razor. To me, it looked new but I cannot tell for sure. The cut isn’t too deep but seconds after, some blood came out. Is it possible that I could have contacted Hep C or any other viruses?

If hepatitis C entered your blood stream there could be a possible risk.

This of course would require the razor to be contaminated with hepatitis c infected blood.

For comparison of relative risk for example if  a healthcare worker should experience an accidental needlestick involving a patient with known hepatitis C the odds of transmission are only about 1.8%.

If you have concerns that this was a risk wait 12 weeks and get tested for hepatitis C antibody’s then you will know if you were exposed to hepatitis c. There is no way to estimate your risk.

Because you were there when this occurred you are in the best position to determine if it was possible the razor was contaminated and if any possible blood could have entered your blood stream.

Thank you for your reply. To my knowledge there was no blood on the razor, not that I could see with my eyes at least.
Then do you believe there  was a possibility that hepatitis C infected blood could have entered your bloodstream? If you think there was a possibility get tested for hepatitis c antibodies in 12 weeks, if not then you have no concerns of infection.
Well...I can’t tell if there were microscopic blood cells and how long they could have been exposed outside human body on the razor
If you think you had a potential risk of hep c infected blood entering your blood stream wait 12 weeks post a possible exposure and get tested.

If you don’t think there was a risk of hep c blood entering your blood stream then don’t get tested.
I certainly can’t tell I was not there you are the best judge if there was a risk.

You may also want to think about getting a tetanus shot if you aren’t current on your immunizations.
