Sensitivity in whole body when back hurts

I have a history of disc herniation along L4-L5. I have occasional burning and warmth in my leg, which is normal for radiculopathy. But I also notice that the rest of my body becomes hypersensitive. I.e. if I itch my arm or face, that area feels stingy and burning as well. I am in the medical professional field, and am perplexed by this. Thoughts?

Ugh, that sounds like a pain and a pain to deal with!  Our body is on such an interrelated system of nerves, it makes sense to me that you have this sort of whole body involvement.  Have you asked your doctor about it?  What are you doing for the disc?

I thought this was a good comprehensive read on the issues https://eorthopod.com/lumbar-disc-herniation/
