Does crossed cheiro-oral syndrome always indicate a lateral medullary infarction?

I am a 26 year-old male. Almost a month ago, I experienced numbness starting in my right thumb and index finger, and it spread up my forearm, upper arm, around the back of my neck, into my left jaw, left chin, left ear, left cheek, and into my tongue. I also felt numbness in my left mid-back, left shoulder blade, left breast, and the back of my left upper arm. This all happened after I had been seated for more than 5 hours. I have residual abnormal sensation in my left chin and lower jaw, as well as sometimes in my left mid-back, left upper arm, and right thumb and index finger. Numbness has come and gone in my tongue as well. My neurologist tentatively diagnosed me with atypical migraine, but I do not think residual numbness is characteristic of this. I really appreciate any input! Thanks.

Hello and welcome to MedHelp's forums. We appreciate your question.  Working with your neurologist and primary care doctor is the best thing to do.  Migraine aura are sensory symptoms that are associated and can happen in all of the places you describe are happening to you. They can happen before or after a migraine.  https://www.webmd.com/migraines-headaches/guide/migraine-phases#1.  There is also something called migraine postdrome as well.  https://www.webmd.com/migraines-headaches/migraine-hangover.  I would log all of your symptoms and follow up with your doctor looking for patterns or triggers.

Migraines are tricky and often not exactly the same things happen from one person to the next. Work with your doctor thought to make sure this is the source of the symptoms and please keep us updated.
