Exposure while on PEP.

Hi Experts,
I had an risky exposure of unprotected sex where I was the receptive partner and was bleeding. Within 24 hours the doctors put me on PEP for 30 days. I took it for 1 day and the second day while on PEP I had similar condom tear and bleeding exposure. Meaning the remaining days for me to current PEP routine was 28 and a half days. If I continue with the same routine for the rest of the days, is my second exposure also covered in my current treatment? Request you to help me with a solution.

I just wanted to update the forum, whoever reads and is in the same situation that I was in. PREP worked for me. Did a 4th generation test 12 weeks post exposure and 8 weeks post exposure. Both came back negative. PREP works if taken correctly within the time frame and good adherence to the 28/30 days course.

I did a 4th generation Antigen/Antibody test 18 days after finishing PEP which came back negative. I just wanted to followup on this post so that other users get positive hopes that PEP if taken early after exposure (I took it within 24 hours). I got side effects like Liver and Kidney profile test showed abnormalities, bad dreams, headaches, nausea , feeling of throwing up but I had made it a point, no matter what, I will complete my 28 days course. All of the side effects come and go during the 28 days course but they are in peak for initial few days. Below are the good habits I practiced.
1) No further sexual activities before completion of Prep and never ever take chances of condomless sex. Like NEVER EVER. In a heat of the moment for the 2 seconds of pleasure, one shouldnt compromise on life.
2) I ate good amount of healthy food and drank enough water and juices to hydrate myself throughout the treatment.
3) My families support and prayers helped me ease down the negative thoughts.
4) PEP medications are indeed strong, so for the people who think its a safe option to get away with exposures everytime, please take it once to know what horrible side effects it gives.
5) Life is beautiful only if our health is good. Please avoid risky exposures. They are seriously not worth. STDs spoil our health in generally weakening immune system after repeated exposures.
6) PEP medications often increase Liver and Kidney enzymes and other related abnormalities are seen in the report. Your doctor will ask you to do the test after taking initial doses. How will you understand? Left or right pelvic region pains, feeling of hot rush inside the body, pain under the chest, headaches that are strong, yellowing of eye balls, skin. I was on Lopinavir/Ritonavir and Tinofir (spellings might be incorrect). My doctor gave me lever detox tablets and syrup which resolved the purpose and I was able to continue with this regime. Some doctors will change the line of PEP medications. Whatever it is, not stopping it and taking it correctly everyday is the key to success of PEP. I will do a followup testing after 4 weeks. This is encouraging though.

PEP is very effective. Just don't miss your dose. Test at the timeline CurfewX gave you.

If you get too anxious take a test at 28 days from the date of your last dose with a IV Gen HIV test, your result should be indicative and unlikely to change. You can get a conclusive at 6 weeks.

Thank you @mike_no and @curfewX. I just wanted to know will testing immediately after PEP a good sign? and then followup after 6 weeks. Also will infections like HEP C (I dont have one but ruling out as blood was involved) can delay seroconversion? Also I hope PEP doesnt delay seroconversion. I know I might have asked many questions but answers to this will help many users going through the same. God bless!
PEP does delay but Hep doesn't, so test ONCE after 6 weeks, as you have been told. Repetitive testing would be abnormal.
And I am from India and good to know someone helping from around the country :)
If you get too anxious, the earliest you could get a test is at 14 days with a IV Gen test. At that point you can't achieve a definitive result. However, it can certainly provide you some encouragement.

At 14/15 days, antibody part of the test will be void. The p24 Antigen part shall be good to work in most cases of infection. P24 antigen for HIV 1 peaks at about 13-16 days.

The above information is not substitute for a conclusive at 6 week, you need to get a final one at 6 weeks with a standard antibody test to rule out HIV infection.
Thank you Mike_no. So 14/15 days after exposure and not 14/15 days after PEP finishing right?
Post finishing PEP.
Thank you for all the responses here. Will post the results once testing is done so other readers get a sigh of relief.
Hi, I just wanted to check if I go for 4th generation Ag/Ab test, the window period still remains 6weeks post PEP? or 4 weeks post PEP?
For a high risk exposure i.e. anal sex, IV needle sharing, exposure with a known positive individual etc. the window period for a conclusive result is at 6 weeks post PEP. At 4 week you will get an indicative result, which is very unlikely to change ahead.

You do not need to re-start PEP nor will the window period change in any significant way.  You still need to test about 6 weeks after your last dose of PEP for your conclusive result.

Thank you so much. Also can you let me know how efficient are PEP is consistently used for 28 days. Will I be prevented from acquiring the infection?
If the other person is negative you can't get hiv, so that is what I would focus on while waiting out the time for a proper test.
It was with three men in a club and hence I am worried.
