Does anyone else get an asthma flare up from taking antibiotics?

I am a 63 yr old woman with multiple allergies to antibiotics.  I am allergic to all penicillin drugs and some other drugs as well.  All of them flare up my asthma which my doctor told me is an allergic reaction.  He also said that I would be in trouble if I ever got really sick and needed these antibiotics.  Wow - a doctor basically telling me there is nothing we can do for you if you get really sick.  I suggestion maybe seeing an allergist and he said Oh yeah - that might be a good idea.  So I guess that is where I go for now.  I am in a constant worry mode because of this issue.  Scared that when a time comes and I do need one of these antibiotics I will be doomed.  I had a similar post on this site before and some had answered and said talk to your doctor.  Well I did and he wasn't much help.  I am looking for people who have this same experience and have found some answers.

I have severe allergic reactions to a lot of antibiotics, some of which have given me Stephe-Johnson/TEN Syndrome, which is very dangerous (too long to explain, please look it up). I currently see an Allergist/Immunologist and try to only take herbal supplements or homeopathic remedies. So I definitely would suggest seeing an Allergist and I would get rid of your doctor and see someone who is more compassionate and helpful. Good luck!
