I'm 40 and this ear thing started in 6th grade band. I honestly don't care about fixing it because I'm pretty sure there isn't a fix, I just want a name for it because anytime I look up ear noises, it points to tinnitus but that's NOT it. It's only in my right ear. It's sounds like static and it's ONLY in response to loud noise like music or a hair dryer or even a person talking really loudly sometimes. It doesn't always happen in response to the same volume either. For example, a certain song on the radio that's set at a volume to 15 on one day could make it happen and the next day with the same song and volume, everything is completely fine. Once the outside sound stops, the ear static stops. It's only in response to the sound. Sometimes I can alleviate the static by putting pressure on the tragus area and essentially closing the ear canal, but usually it only stops when the outside sound does. It doesn't hurt, no stabbing pain or anything. It's just annoying and pretty loud inside my head when it happens. Aside from when this happens, my hearing is perfectly normal so I don't believe it's anything associated with ear damage.
