Graves to Hypo - of methimizole - on beta blocker Atenelol

Hi, I have Graves and Graves ophthalmology.  I’ve been on methiizole for 2 years and recently dose increased 10mg and I became hypo, developed large goiter quickly that is pushing my esophagus among other things.  Went off methimizole, swelling went away 90%.  Doctor put me on Atenelol since refuse methimizole until my thyroidectomy upcoming as I’m not mildly hyper again.   I am aching all over, my eyes seem worse, my ribs are sore, intermittent headach, face breaking out, weak muscles.   Is this a reaction to Atenelol?

These aren't common side effects of atenolol, which include, but aren't limited to:    Tiredness,
low blood pressure (hypotension), slow heart rate, cold extremities,  dizziness upon standing,
depression, nausea, dreaming.   They are, however, most likely, symptoms of being hyper again, since you aren't on anything to help control your Graves Disease.

I understand that 10 mg methimazole was too much and caused you to become hypo, but was there some reason you aren't willing to be a reduced dosage, such as 5 mg?

Some Graves Ophthalmology is irreversible; it's not a good idea to irritate it further if this can be avoided.

When will you be having your thyroidectomy?

HI, I’m sorry, have had some issues and did not see this.  Update:  back on methimizole 20mg daily — started feeling better....labs coming down and then boom, woke up with gout and could not walk.  Treated with steroid - over that.  But now I have a big knot in my throat again.  Labs last logged are:  TSH 0.01 — Free T4 1.8 —— TT3 1.66.  Doc thinks I need to continue 20 mg but I’m worried I’m hitting hypo and feeling the goiter is swelling again substernally.  Ugh.  I don’t understand this disease.  Surgery X 3 weeks.
